Re: Water Heater

Need to serve 500 showers at the same time? Give them each a temp-limiting mixing valve, then run a 200-deg-F recirculating supply loop past all of them, fed from what is essentially a 25 million BTU tankless heater. Bingo; 500 people taking [more]

Re: Water Heater

However, these do not seem to be water heaters in the context of this thread (that is, something that takes in cold water and produces hot water for consumption by showers, sinks, washing machines, and such). The owner's manual says the MINIMUM [more]

Re: Water Heater

I've seen hotels that have a thousand gallon storage tank AND a million BTU input boiler. That hot water can still be drained during heavy demand in the morning.

25,000,000-btu input:

Re: Water Heater

But for most people in a typical American house that has multiple simultaneous uses of hot water, a tank is the better choice, in my opinion.

But feel free to choose whatever you like.

Agree that tanks are more [more]

Re: Water Heater

He probably meant to say a "limited flow rate" of water through the heat exchanger.

Maybe. Every pipe has a "limited flow rate" at a given fluid pressure. Heat exchangers can be fabricated using any size of pipe [more]

Re: Home tool reviews

The first three tools one should purchase are:

1. a big pair of bolt cutters
2. a 5" battery powered angle grinder with a cut-off wheel
3. a portable cutting torch

Then you can acquire all the rest of the tools at very [more]

Re: Water Heater

Seattle...

1. Tanked heaters have a limited BTU/hr input as well.

2. There are tankless heaters than can handle the demand of a whole apartment complex if you want to spend the money and supply the fuel.

I think TMF is truncating the urls of the photos.

PSU, I had to look up your dryer by model number before I began to understand why you were hooking a water line up to your clothes dryer. Good work on the diagnosis/repair!

Re: What goes well with a vegetarian meal?

I think phrases like, "The worst part of that kind of diet..." are unnecessarily judgmental.

Re: Ceramic tile for outside poorch

There are stone church steps that have held up for centuries through snowy weather and don't have cracks/spalling.

Snowy weather doesn't automatically mean freezing ground temperatures. And if the ground IS frozen, snow doesn't mean [more]

Re: What goes well with a vegetarian meal?

I'm a meat eater, but I don't make a fuss about getting meat every meal, or even every day for that matter. I've got no problem with "substitutes" (assuming they are decent ones) used for dishes - like chili, or like one of the examples in [more]

Stone won't crack from the freeze-thaw cycle,....

Well that's just false. Most types of natural stone are porous and or contain imperfections such as veins, fissures, etc. that will allow water to permeate below the surface. They may [more]
