I'll bet some people give up chance of 'buying' an inflation indexed, no fee annuity backed by US Govt (by starting SS at age 62) only to turn around and buy the insurance company variety later in life. [more]

I live in metro Phoenix area. If we had to, we could defintely retire on SS alone. Cost of living is comparable to Albuquerque and Tucson --only there is a lot more to do here. And there is large airport which translates into lower cost [more]

Yes TJ's does sell wine in AZ and CA. Years ago I used to buy bottles of Charles Shaw wine--aka '2 buck chuck' from there.

I feel safe not using TIPS with 60% stocks. But if short to intermediate term investment grade bonds ever get to where they have a real net yield of more than 2.0%, I would like to follow Bernstein's advice and "not play the game anymore. [more]

Delaying SS to age 70 is effectively buying an annuity at a substantial discount to what a for-profit insurer would charge for the same benefit.

Recently been thinking analyzing when might be optimal age to file for Social Security benefits. Here are the options I was considering:
