But that 2,676 is a free loan to the government. Who already rapes you once a year.

Re: 401k's a failure for many

All I have to say is my 401K has over 500K not including other savings and pensions for retirement. If folks don't have at least something on this order for retirement I would not want their retirement.

I apologize I should have been clearer. I was referring to price per share rather than costs.

VNQ sell point

I am 66 and have funds to invest in ETFs. I think I understand when to buy at the dips. However, I am unclear about when to sell. I want to hold any shares for at least a year to avoid short term gains. Any help about when to sell would be [more]

Re: Financial Sector growth.....

I don't see how there would be a "real economy" without a financial sector. The reverse also applies. Just my opinion.

Re: Postponed Retirement Option

Rich,

I did not use the postponed retirement option but I know that you want to suspend your FEHB insurance and not cancel it. Then you can reactivate the FEHB when you want.

Re: Portfolios 8-13 Individual Metrics

Wow I just got started on my portfolio and find I picked a winner in WGP. I thought I would invest in ETFs for diversification. Have you looked at dividend paying ETFs such as the Spyders, I-Shares, Proshares, Powershares, and Vanguard?

Re: The Price We Pay

Too much government equals bad results. Less government equals better results. Until voters realize this we continue to have problems.

Re: Poll: Dividends and Shareholder Equity

So you would have $100 in hand instead of $50 when you invested. That would mean the company was worth more. :-)

Purchasing stocks/ETFs in 100s.

How does the amount of shares affect the costs? Is it better to purchase in 100 lots or less?

Appreciate your ideas.

Re: SS & Pension as part of "cash cushion&q

The difference is that the fixed income investment can be converted to cash. The SS cannot. If you need more than 4% from the fixed income investment you can withdraw more. You cannot do this with SS.
