Re: long span lumber

You're off in left field here - the OP is talking about supporting latticework

Well, ok I apologize if I misunderstood. Yeah, I too wouldn't want to make this large joisted structure just for lattice or a mere trellis for growing [more]

Re: long span lumber

is just BS

Inspectors vary with their personalities. No, you don't bring a print to them and then they tell you how to build it, that's just ludicrous. I do agree, however, that if you are nice as pie and don't act as though they are [more]

Pex tubing

Pex I believe comes in rigid and flex.

Let me explain something. Some building materials were designed with one thing in mind: Economy, and profit for the installer. A contractor can run flex tubing around your [more]

Re: long span lumber

You have to have some basic information before you can calculate joist size and span. You can't use opinions or comments like "gee, I can jump up and down on a 2x6, 16' long and it won't break, so it's ok to use." That's actually [more]

Re: New roof decisions

Watty,

I have a light yellow but with light brown roof. Your yellow is probably lighter than mine but some of the nicest looking combinations I see are the light yellow siding with green shingles.

I haven't priced shingles in awhile [more]

Re: Cramming

Are you sure about that?

You ask questions Ratioson who's answers are given before you ask.

My adjective apparently has a definition of "seemingly so" and "appearing as such but not necessarily [more]

Re: Cramming

By the way, the $5.5 million is what the attorneys are eligible for and has nothing to do with what the customers are eligible for. So, someone like me may get $19.95 while the attorneys get $5.5 million.

Does anyone think ATT may charge a [more]

Re: Cramming

Why don't you?

Apparantly the irony and facetiousness is lost on you in the notion that one would consider suing in an effort to be less involved with suing.

Re: Comedy of errors; lawn mowing

I could envision your plight

Donna, if you were within about 10 houses of mine, you also would have heard my plight a few times.

Cramming

Utilities and home phones are part of homes, so it's relevant imo.

I've had ATT for over 20 years. Since the mid 2000's I've gotten bills from ATT with oddball sounding third party companies charging me for things I knew nothing about. I'd [more]

Comedy of errors; lawn mowing

How do I screw up, let me count the ways.

1. Go to mow, but tire is flat.
2. Go to fill tire but air chuck is missing.
3. Buy new airchuck, but it's wrong quick connect style
4. Go buy new airchuck, tire inflates nicely, [more]

Re: Our new deck squeeks

Sometimes what happens when you put 2 screws next to each other, is that when the 2nd screw is driven home, it makes the 1st screw "looser." You can experiment with a cordless drill motor and test this theory to see if one screw is looser [more]

$4M verdict in shocking case

Seems like we had a person in here awhile back whom said they were getting shocked in their shower. We offered advice and then I believe I asked the poster to please report back on their success but if memory serves, they never did. I wonder if it [more]

Re: Phone wiring

Barbara,

I too switched from ATTDSL to Uverse, except I had them come out and install the box. You did get a new box, right? The old DSL boxes are not compatible with the Uverse modem hubs.

Mine worked for a couple days and then [more]

Re: Tile over vinyl, plywood, etc.

Biggest reason for a subfloor to bring it up to 1" is so the tile doesn't crack. Plywood isn't as stiff as cement board, so the give in plywood transfers to the tile and grout.
