Re: Do you pay someone to manage money?

I am 71 and I don't pay anyone except a few mutual fund managers to manage my money. I let them decide whether a Facebook or Google makes sense. My actively managed funds are FCNTX and FLPSX.

I supplement that part of my stock portfolio [more]

Re: New GOP tax bill

I did a quick and dirty tax calculation based on what we know at this point. I don't itemize and haven't for years and years. Best estimate is that for me this thing is basically neutral... for now. Down road, we screwed unless we can figure [more]

I am anxious to see this guy but keeping an open mind. I have seen a lot of other "unicorns" come and go in baseball over the years.

Re: new 2018 eligible HOF!!!

Vizquel was arguably the best defensive shortstop of his generation but he played in an era of great shortstops, so the fact that he was probably never the best SS in any year he played will hurt his chances.

True, but the guy had [more]

Vasquel, Thome and Hoffmann, eventually. Guerrero and Edgar Marinez, maybe.

That's if I had a ballot.

Clemens and Bonds would have made it if they never touched the "roids". What a [more]

Arguably not a bad choice, if you think forcing hospitals to treat uninsured people for free is better than forcing people to get health insurance. At best he's got to be less of a [more]

For the Chop

On Thursday, I am having my right knee replaced after kind of walking it to death over the last 15 years.

Looking forward to getting the thing fixed but then, you never know so wish me well.

Lerici is just charming. What tourists are there are Italians, with the family out for the stroll in the evening. Italians are very sympathetic to us Yanks. They had to put up with Berlusconi for decades, so they feel our current pain. Russian [more]

As near as I can figure, I have saved $3000 a month since I retired and I have been retired for 17 years. If you have enough capital when you retire, compounding works its magic even if you are withdrawing from your nest egg.
