Re: slow kitchen drains

Kind of Kludgy, but I have considered adding a cleanout to the horizontal line in the basement.

That's not a kludge, its the right solution. I think there is a requirement in building codes for a clean out after a certain number of [more]

Re: Warped lumber

Lesson learned: Don't by wet wood. Wet wood will warp and twist and bend, you just don't know which.

How bad is the warp? All wood will warp, and a decent carpenter will be able to deal with some warping and cupping.

I'd probably [more]

Re: S&P Up or Down

So my answer to your question is: Don't know, *can't* know, so don't care. It'll do whatever it does, and there is nothing I can do to change it.

I agree. I thought the whole point of Mechanical Investing is to remove emotion and [more]

Re: Outlet sparks

The odds are VERY high that your condo association is responsible for maintaining the wiring in safe condition,

Since this is an interior outlet, I'd peg the odds closer to slim than very high.

Still worth a quick call to [more]

Re: Installing hand spray for tub

The bathtub nozzle just screws onto the pipe

That is common, but it's not the only way a bathtub spout attaches. The one in our house is a press fit with a flexible plastic sleeve providing the sealing. A set screw keeps the spout in [more]

That depends on why you are writing and posting.

insurance is over $1000 per month.

Keep in mind that policy might have been $1300 to $1500 a month before the ACA.

Mine was $1300 a month before ACA and dropped to $800 a month. Yes, it's still a lot, but at least it's [more]

It will not upgrade Win 8.0 at all.

Which means you'll have to do the free upgrade from Win 8.0 to Win 8.1 before you can do the free upgrade from Win 8.1 to Win 10.

I'd recommend the upgrade to 8.1 anyway. Makes Win 8 much [more]

Yes the concern is "throwing away" the $ on rent.

And how is throwing money away on interest any different? Have you looked at the actual dollar difference between renting and purchasing in the area you're considering? It's [more]
