Finally took the tree down today--1 February--didn't put it up until 22 December. Wanted to be able to enjoy the lights for a while.

Regarding general tree conditions prior to cutting. Had LOTS of rain (for us) in late August/early [more]

Re: outdoor carpeting on deck

Double-honeycombed blackout shades or similar might address the light problem, as well as reduce heat from the reflected light. I used them in the TV room of our previous house--worked quite well for both the glare and the heat (south-facing [more]

Re: Christmas tree holder

Christmas tree holder

Kind of late for this year, and maybe some of you already do this, but my brother thought this was a good technique, so thought I'd share it.

On years when we are at our house for Christmas we cut our own tree. All the fancy stands that you [more]

Most likely it was 3 weeks after an adoption, not a birth.

Yes. Sorry--guess I wasn't paying attention to potential alternative interpretations. She was 3 years, 3 months when we got her home from China.

Re: white board

Acetone can also be used to remove permanent black marker, strand by strand with Q-tips, from a cream-colored Persian rug.

My daughter necessitated learning that 15 years ago--about 3 weeks after we got her home. :-)
