Re: JD and Me

Anyone smoke with barrel chunks before?
I would *think* that they'd be very similar to just using that type of wood. And I think barrels are usually oak.

Re: Sprinkler system question

I guess I don't understand this, or don't understand why it's important. The funny pipe allows you to put the sprinkler head somewhere other than directly above the main pipe. If it's a foot away - and buried - who cares if the pipe is parallel or [more]

Re: Sprinkler system question

Instead, put in a T, then "funny pipe" it a foot or two off to the side. Funny pipe is flexible pipe, about a 1/2" diameter.

I recommend doing a swing-joint with funny pipe.
here's one pre-assembled:

Re: Sprinkler system question

if you rent a ditch-witch be sure to get Blue Stake out to mark all your utility lines
I'm not familiar with Blue Stake - but you definitely should call the "call-before-you-dig" hotline for your area if you're doing *ANY* [more]

Re: Painting stucco?

Ordinary stucco is grey. It's basically a concrete mixture they spray on a chicken-wire substrate.

Around here (northern CA) the stucco for the base / scratch coat is just plain grey. But usually the final coat has a coloring agent [more]

Re: Locating An Irrigation Valve

Absent that equipment, is there any other method I can use to find (or at least narrow down) where that zone's valve might be?

Follow the wires
(or follow the water pipes - but those are more likely to be buried)

Re: Grounding for light fixture

No, they are rated 28AWG to 12AWG, solid and stranded, any combination. 20 amps maximum

The information I could find on them was from Wago's website:

Re: Grounding for light fixture

one wire always seems to want to come loose just as I'm putting the nut on
If they're similar size, usually it's not too bad for me.
Worst I've had is where it was a pair of 12-AWG and a 20-AWG in a light fixture.

Re: Grounding for light fixture

You don't have to line the wires up and stick them in all at once, you can put them in one at a time. And remove individual wires easily. Solid, stranded, almost any gauge, ANY combination.
The ones you linked to are only for 28 to 14 [more]

Re: Grounding for light fixture

If that was the *only* reason for this code requirement I would think it easier to specify only nylon screws for the faceplate.

That's just one example I could come up with.
There's also lots and lots of places where the box is [more]

Re: Grounding for light fixture

The box is supposed to be grounded so that if a hot wire comes loose and touches the box it will trip the breaker instead of cause a fire, correct?
Doesn't really change the fire risk any...

Re: Grounding for light fixture

Is this new approach still kosher?
If you're asking if using a wirenut for ground is kosher, yes, it is. And it's not a new approach.
If it is a metal box, the box must be grounded.
Sometimes I will loop the ground wire around a [more]

Or did you sign over the deed in lieu of foreclosure?

If you're disposing of all the shares you still have to have the total basis.
And for that you either figure out which lots were bought when [more]
