Re: Two Unorthodox Ways to Pay Off a Mortgage Ea

That article is about withdrawals from an IRA. Not loans.

"Semantics."

There is a BIG difference between withdrawing money from an IRA and taking a loan from one.

I hadn't heard of Bank of Cashton before...

Best place for HSA investing

I'm looking for new home for my HSA funds.

I am looking for where I can put all my HSA $ into an investment.
Right now I'm thinking a S&P 500 index fund with low expenses. (or maybe a total market index or something)
I want to [more]

Re: Natural gas

Does that mean I'll have to re-light a bunch of pilot lights (HW heater, stove, etc.).

Probably.
The local gas company in my area will send someone to re-light them for you if you call them.

But this kind of question [more]

Re: garbage disposal

If you're putting a garbage disposal back in the same place, you *may* be able to reuse the metal part that's attached directly to the sink.

Re: Propane vs. wood stove

Faqr safer. Probably more eficient. Providing hugely more even and consistant heating.
I've had some experience with a hydronic based wood heating system. while gas is more "efficient", I think that's a pointless measure - [more]

And I've known them to last a lot longer (although they do have to be maintained - ex. painting the outside for wood windows)

How do cement board and vinyl and metal compare for fire resistance?

Since I know people who have melted a section of their vinyl siding by having the grill a bit too close, I would say it compares poorly to the other two. [more]

Too late. :-( 90% removed, ton of work remains.

California income tax - underwithholding

I know IRS has a "safe harbor" for not withholding enough - that if you have withheld an amount that's at least 100% of last year's taxes (or 110% if above $150K)
