Re: New Quicken for Mac

I wonder if it's equivalent to 2007. If so, it's tempting. I also wonder how easy it is to transfer data from 2007 to 2015.

Re: Deep thoughts by jack handy

I count present value of social security and my wife's pension as an asset as one part of viewing our asset allocation. Of course the more meaningful use of those numbers is the difference between their value and expenses, a difference I try to keep [more]

Re: Moving to New Computer

I use a cash flow spreadsheet to project income and expenses for three month periods. But I still find the budget function of Quicken useful. I'm careful about including everything in check and credit card registers and Quicken can generate quick [more]

Re: Deep thoughts by jack handy

Two questions re inflation on withdrawal rate:

1. Wouldn't ROI be expected to reflect inflation, i.e., the dollars a fixed percentage draw represent would rise as well?

2. If you remove housing prices from inflation, wouldn't that [more]

Re: Brokers Fight For Right to Screw Customers

IP, it seems to me you might need an attorney who specializes in estate planning who can put together a trust the defines a path for distribution of assets and PoAs for health and financial matters.

The are plenty of studies that suggest a [more]

Re: Brokers Fight For Right to Screw Customers

Most who steal do so to make a living. They reserve the right to extract extra income from those who can afford it. Seems to make as much sense if you go down that path of reasoning.

Re: Current Quicken for the Mac & finances?

The projection spreadsheet I use is relevant to my 101-year-old mother who draws on the trust to supplement a small pension and social security. I wanted to know that she is likely to have sufficient funds should she live to be 110, and the [more]

Re: Current Quicken for the Mac & finances?

Quicken 2007 has retirement and investment planners that are basically smart calculators -- plug in some assumptions and get an answer. I've never used them.

I use a spreadsheet for asset allocation and another to project value of [more]

Re: Current Quicken for the Mac & finances?

I've used Quicken 2007 for Macs for years, including the version written for the latest iMacs. I enter and categorize everything in checking and credit card accounts. We use a simple investment scheme of four Vanguard index funds, and I enter their [more]

Intercst,

I did the drill of adding capitalized social security and COLA pension to our fixed income portfolio. The result is 88% fixed income!

Re: What My Financial Adviser Recommends

I understand interest's rationale, and I do a ratio of our holdings using that rationale as well as the more standard stock/bond ratio, yet I think a function of bonds in a portfolio is to lower the volatility of its value. Of course, on the upside [more]

Quicken 2007 v 2014

I've been using Quicken 2007 for Mac OS 10 for several years, and the previous version of Quicken 2007 before that. Is there any advantage of moving to Quicken 2014 for Mac, and is the transfer easy?
