Re: Hypothetical cooler question

The question on keeping the water depends on how much the temperature has climbed in the fridge by the time you go to add the ice.

If the fridge and water are rapidly approaching the only 35 degrees less than ambient, then the water is not [more]

Re: Mower deck mandrel replacement

Last comments

Ultimately, it looks like penetrating oil did the trick and I got the old mandrel off. Used tap to thread new part - went fairly smoothly, but in 3 of 4, I was not perfectly square. I opted to terminate the threads a about 3/8 [more]

Re: Mower deck mandrel replacement

Little update -

Re: Mower deck mandrel replacement

Parts came in today - as noted, the casting has no threads and the bolts are a fairly fine thread (machine thread?). Planning on pickign up a tap and die set tomorrow. The metal on the casting looks like a fairly lightweight alloy. Assuming I can [more]

Mower deck mandrel replacement

Mower has decided either a bearing or something else in one of the mandrels is dying/nearly dead. The parts aren't that expensive - is this something reasonably in the realm of the homeowner?

This is the part in question:

Re: Where do you park your E-fund?

Jonathan,

Unemployment for 1 year would see me needing to cover expenses of say $60,000, which I couldn't see doing on CC. Although I've changed jobs, I have not been unemployed since high school.

But for those in the thread [more]

All - I appreciate the replies. Even those that are a bit critical.

If you do get a gadget, remember how you hold it/height above actual ground level will be important.

You can use google earth to get an approximation of the elevation, but it lacks the floodplain data and is only as good as the data source it used for the local control. For instance, on the Texas coast, I think its mostly LiDAR based and good within [more]
