"The maximums are complex because they have to include contributions to all qualified plans - your company's 401(k), your solo 401(k) and your SEP IRA (if you have all 3). For 2017, the total, excluding the catch-up contribution of $6k, [more]

Re: 2 401k's and a SEP-IRA

Re: 2 401k's and a SEP-IRA

The combined limit for the SEP IRA and the Employer contribution to the solo-401(k) is 25% of earned income. No benefit of having both, i.e. you cannot "double up."

Re: 2 401k's and a SEP-IRA

That is true, but you can do the same thing in a SEP.

Re: 2 401k's and a SEP-IRA

You don't want a solo 401(k) (because you cannot make any more employee 401(k) contributions) in this arrangement all you need is a SEP. The maximum SEP is 25% of "earned income." Earned income is your self employment income less any [more]

Re: No more 401(k) brokerage window...what to do

Spoed, one other piece of advice. Tell them you are willing to sign something saying that they are not responsible for any losses you may get based upon having a brokerage window. This is a big concern for Fiduciaries of a 401(k) plan. I have made [more]

Re: ROTH IRA CONTRIBUTIONS

Joel, one word of warning with the advice below. It doesn't work if the person has any other tax deferred IRA money. The conversion of the basis to Roth is pro-rata on ALL IRA's so some of the conversion may be taxable if you also have some [more]
