Re: Buffett/Munger comments on advisors getting old

Also, Buffett's portfolio has underperformed the market for some time so maybe he should think about putting all future dollars into the index.

Buffett/Munger comments on advisors getting old

I think I've heard enough from Buffett/Munger bashing the financial industry. Firstly, Buffett's own Wells Fargo owns an advisory as well as all of his other financial investments. Secondly, where would Buffett/Munger be today had they not run [more]

Re: Another great quarter for IBM

IBM is the king of the recurring non-recurring charge. Actually many of Buffett's investments are. KO and AXP have done this for years.

Another great quarter for IBM

Financial engineering can only get you so far. Nice tax rate by the way.

"years of reckless underwriting" at Wells Fargo

(Reuters) - Wells Fargo & Co (WFC.N) admitted to deceiving the U.S. government into insuring thousands of risky mortgages, as it formally reached a record $1.2 billion settlement of a U.S. Department of Justice lawsuit.

Re: Why did Warren and Charlie buy BAC

He could have bought more, but he didn't. He continues to buy more now, seven years later.

Re: Why did Warren and Charlie buy BAC

Warren did not buy WFC at $9. He waited until it quadrupled then started buying again. He was scared just like everyone else in the world that the whole system might go under.

Re: Bought a large IBM Position

So we heard the same 8x earnings arguments when the forward earnings estimates were for $20/share, now they've been reduced by 30% to $14/share. And guess what? The stock has gone down 30% from WEB's basis, directly in line with this reduced earnings [more]

Where are you getting this information from? FFH has a 20% gap over BRKB the last four years.

Re: Fairfax Versus Berkshire

Buffett is done. Seriously. Way too many external distractions anymore. Hillary, the Giving Pledge, etc. He lost focus a long, long time ago and the performance shows it, starting with this silly IBM investment. It's crazy for anyone to expect he can [more]

Berkshire Highly Leveraged to Energy/Financials

Is it any wonder the stock is getting killed?

Main Equity Portfolio Summary:

WFC - energy exposure north of $40 billion, declining net interest margin, higher capital requirements, a good but no longer great business
AXP - [more]

Re: OT: FAST

It's the reaction to their monthly sales release I suspect. Have said many times before, this is a business WEB should have taken out. A bit more predictable than IBM. Of course, the stock rarely if ever goes on sale.

No Bottom In Sight For Berkshire

I've been warning about this for quite some time. Buffett's all-in bet on the U.S. Economy looking quite foolish, especially with global deflation on the horizon. Add to the mix that this company is run by an 85 year old chairman with a murky [more]
