Re: EMC

Sure - I don't have a goose in this fight, so to speak, but I will say that I don't expect VMWare to stand still while their market erodes, either. The have shown that they are willing to play very aggressively to defend and expand their market [more]

Re: EMC

I think EMC would be wise to spin off VMW now (and while they've nurtured VMW, they didn't develop it in house, they acquired the company for $625M 10 years ago).

VMWare is a big company with a great product. However I see them getting [more]

Everything energy related?

Just to name a few, APC is down 10%, OAS is down 30%, SPN/17%, and even the uranium mining names are falling. Not jumping in but making a shopping list of the lower basis/higher e&p upside names (with good liquidity).

Re: Amazing AMZN

Totally respect not investing in AMZN (as mentioned before, I am not either).

I was going to let the thread rest, but the AWS annual conference (re:Invent) was a couple of weeks ago. A few days afterwards, an interesting article was posted [more]

Hi stillwater - I don't exclusively employ a particular investing strategy, but I have used something close to your 'venerable owners' in my typical mix. I recently found (and just started a position in) a company that seems like a good match, Ingles [more]

Re: FKA : IBM

Sorry, guess I'm more on the R&D side than operational IT and I think a lot of our not seeing eye-to-eye on this stems from that divide. I am familiar with the various *aaSs, and I agree with you on the SaaS nomenclature. Please, please spread [more]

Hey! Sorry, work preempted online discussions.

Re: FKA?: Peak Oil Theory

I sort of agree. I think that dense energy is somewhat tough, and finding a substitute for petroleum at the scale we use it and the price we're used to will not be easy. Granted, we have an appallingly wasteful society and could do a lot to replace [more]
