Re: The Stern Report remembered

Unlike earlier reports, his conclusions are likely to be seen as objective and based on cold, hard economic fact, our correspondent said.

Really? IIRC, the choice of discount rate in the Stern report was quite contentious, and not [more]

Re: They're always wrong but still get airtime

The difference in climate between Illinois and Louisiana doesn't appear to have hurt corn production.

There's really not that big of a difference in the climate of Illinois and Louisiana during most of the growing season: humid and [more]

Re: They're always wrong but still get airtime

Interestingly, reality suggests that the rate of temperature increase is something less than 1/3 of that predicted by climate researchers.

Link?

Re: They're always wrong but still get airtime

The only way to get the Chinese to reduce CO2 is going to be to PAY them and PAY THEM BIG TIME to put that up on their agenda.

Eh, not true. We can also:
1) Develop cheaper, better alternatives for them to use.
2) Use the [more]

WITH NO REDUCTION IN GLOBAL EMISSIONS!

That would be, at least 90 billion a year in carbon taxes through 2030 (and you know it wouldn't end then - the gravy train will be too long and pork laden).... That's a trillion

Re: The anti-CMIP

Are you sure? I just searched and I couldn't find any news. Exxon or Esso and "climate research group".

With a cursory search, I can't find the same job opening I saw a few days ago (and I didn't save it), but here's another [more]

If they thought there was any possibility that current climate science was as flawed and as easily fixed as many here seem to believe they would have done this years ago. But they have not. This tells me they think the science is [more]

Re: The anti-CMIP

As far as I know, no one has created a climate model that successfully matches the past century as a hindcast that doesn't also have a climate sensitivity in the accepted range.

You could easily do this with a statistical [more]

You, spinning or windchasers, the two papers referenced and the IPCC all compared against surface temperature. Despite the hand wringing on your guys' part, I'm pretty sure we have broad agreement that the best way to look at model quality in [more]

Re: Best idea of the decade

If you feel these models are proven, why not stick with them until the other models prove themselves?

The old models are much more tuned, and much less physically realistic, forecasting or no. Model resolution is higher now, and [more]

You can often find papers by each model's group, comparing the latest version to the previous one in many of these aspects.

This is the approach I disagree with, I want to see results, not theory on why the next version of model [more]

Actually evaluating models is simple, the one that matches reality the closest is the best.

Are you sure about the 1C sensitivity thing? You can take the last 10 years and come up with a low sensitivity and technically you would not be denying any data.

Sure, but you could look at the 10 years before that, and come up with [more]

If so, this may be a case of cup half full. Why couldn't the other currencies be overvalued?

This would be sad if it weren't so tragic.

The climate models may predict a 3C temperature sensitivity but the actual raw global temperature numbers look a lot closer to 0.8-1.5 C sensitivity.
