I can now ride around the neighbourhood, on my own, stay within the "tram lines" cast by overhead power cables and not fall over at speeds that hover around 3 mph, give or take.

This might not seem like [more]

Re: Best running watch you'd recommend?

Here's something else I was reminded of at the gym yesterday. You can get a bit of a Hawthorne effect going on too.....whereby just monitoring your heart rate can alter the response.

Whenever I have a new class member follow my advice to get [more]

My own experience with HRMs started in the mid-80s after reading about Francesco Conconi and the method he developed for training Italian athletes using heart rate....

Of course, now we know a bit more about Conconi's [more]

Re: Best running watch you'd recommend?

You mention in this thread (and in previous ones when the HRM subject comes up) that the general consensus on how to use HRMs for training is incorrect and that most people aren't getting much performance gain from them. Are there any websites [more]

I'm glad this thread was able to educate you in that regard.

Me too ..... since it ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble but what you know that just ain't so.

But that's exactly what you did say across multiple posts

Really? In that case, let me apologise. I was sure I [more]

Re: Best running watch you'd recommend?

Re: Best running watch you'd recommend?

Never get a GPS/HRM that doesn't involve a chest strap. The most accurate reading is as close to the heart as possible. HRM which tell you otherwise are selling you something.
