Re: Still waiting

I know, but it said, "...only car in the USA...." That's clearly wrong.

Actually, the article (and award) were about brands, not models. The link included was for the Clark Howard reference, not the actual KBB article. [more]

Re: Still waiting

In case I ever am in this kind of situation, what is the best way to approach it, where they want a deposit but have no incentive to deliver?

The deposit is always refundable, no matter what they try to tell you. Honestly, if you [more]

Re: Still waiting

I'm going to guess that not all dealerships have the same $$ in their cars, based on volume purchasing.

Every car built the same costs every dealer the same amount. There is no volume discount on the wholesale level. One exception is [more]

Re: Still waiting

if I ever buy a car at a dealership and they ask for a deposit, I'll make them agree to lower the price by $500/week for every week late or something.

Good luck with that negotiating strategy.

Re: I Had To Go To Jiffy Lube

Dealers usually have well trained, certified techs. But usually they want you to pay extra for the extra expertise.

You are correct that dealers will typically have better trained techs, but even if training is similar they [more]

Re: I Had To Go To Jiffy Lube

Thanks Steven. It is possible to do a $20 or so oil change for a slight profit, but not enough to pay the rent and keep the lights on or pay management/sales staff. Using no name bulk oil, a white box filter and cheap hourly labor, the best cost of [more]

Re: I Had To Go To Jiffy Lube

5w30 Conventional is $2.50 per quart cost, so $12.50
Oil Filer is less than $2.00
The $15 air filter probably cost $6
COGS $20.5
Total flat labor probably .6 including the filter
COL <$10 maybe a little more since they are [more]

$63 for an oil change and an air filter.

What type of oil? That is a good price for a synthetic change...perhaps not so much for conventional

Re: Air pressure warning

No they aren't. The PSI allowed on the tire sidewall is a maximum pressure intended by a tire manufacturer (presumably with some safety factor). The placarded PSI on the vehicle is calculated to provide the correct contact patch size/shape for [more]

Re: Air pressure warning

Without getting into a detailed technical discussion, there is a threshold for low pressure, even if all are the same, but the system (as most systems) is not terribly complex.

One other note on this...Subaru TPMS isn't terribly sophisticated. It can't detect that the pressure is low, just that all the pressures are not equal. Your light is [more]

Re: Air pressure warning

Factory recommendations are generally a compromise between what the tire maker says and a comfortable ride. I don't think 3-4 lbs. over what the tire label in your car says should hurt anything. The ride may be a little bit more harsh, especially if [more]

Is there a way to fix this?

inflate all of your tires to the same correct pressure. One of them might be slightly lower than the rest but still within acceptable range when warm.

Re: Selling car to private party

Definitely less hassle, but in my case, Carmax (which was a 3 hour drive from me) offered me $1200 for a car that I later sold (private party) for almost $4k.

Carmax has no interest in $4000 cars and their offer is just a kind of [more]

2013 altima 2.5sl The payoff for the car is about 18.5k. We are not replacing the car. She just wants to get out of debt. She has another vehicle to drive.

So the loan is $18.5, what is the car worth? Are you just selling or replacing? Have you tried selling to carmax or a local dealer (assuming you are not replacing it). If you are replacing it, do you save sales tax by trading it in your [more]

If at all possible you should do the transaction at the bank where the lien can be released and they will have a notary on site for the paperwork. Since the loan is Capital One it will be a little tricky to do that. Can you pay off the note with an [more]
