Eric Volkman

For Eric, writing for Motley Fool is the closing of a big circle. After all, he learned the basics of stocks and investment largely by reading (shameless plug/kiss-up) "The Motley Fool Investment Guide" back in the dark days of the early 1990s. This helped him win assignments as a freelance business journalist and, later, a "proper" job as an investment bank analyst. He began these twin threads of a career during his years living in Prague, Czech Republic, a city that was his home for nearly a decade and a half. Luckily, a few years short of his 30th birthday he was able to combine the two into a mutant Frankenstein of a job as a co-creator and subsequently editor of Equity Insights, a monthly magazine issued by Austrian financial services major Raiffeisenbank. At the Motley Fool, he got his start as a contributor to its blog network, from which he was invited to join the main Fool site in early 2012. Eric has a great many interests besides finance. He likes movies, he plays bass guitar and has been in an assortment of bands across several genres, and is a sucker for nearly any good documentary TV show, film, or book. He is married and currently resides in Los Angeles, where he refuses to wax nostalgic about the joys of winter.
