Investing Basics

Investing Experience:
Medium High
Risk Tolerance:
High
Investing Style:
Long-Term Buy to Hold
Portfolio Size:
Large (12 or more Stocks)
Types of Investments:
I am constantly on the hunt for companies that I believe can grow for decades on end. When I find one, I buy it and dollar cost average into it over several years with the goal of adding at better and better value points (thanks Tom Engle for that advice!) If a company turns out to be a dud (as judge by business performance, not stock price performance) then I move it to hold and stop adding. I rarely sell (portfolio turnover <5% per year). I occasionally use options to scratch my activity itch, but keep my exposure quit low.

Personal Quote:
A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can do without - Thoreau. Invest for tomorrow, and you will always be richer today. AND The philosopher Diogenes was quite famous but very poor. One day he was sitting eating his usual meal of bread and cooked lentils, all that he could afford. Another philosopher walked by Diogeneses. This man was Aristippus who was not nearly as well known as Diogenes but he lived a prosperous and comfortable life by constantly flattering the king. Aristippus said, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king, you would not have to live on lentils.” Said Diogenes: “If you would learn to live on lentils, you wouldn't have to be subservient to the king!”
