Re: Time for questions this month

Hey, Marius,

Yes, TTS has to show that it's really a growth story. The company got hit by a slowing housing market this year and a lackluster consumer environment. But the economy is getting better and so will housing. So long term there's [more]

Re: Time for questions this month

Hi, srockaz,

I would say I want three qualities: low downside, reasonably high level of certainty, and at least some medium (if not high) upside. I'm willing to accept lower upside if I can be highly sure that I can get it.

As you [more]

Re: Time for questions this month

Hey, Fletch,

The biggest issue is some volume weakness in North America, so some of the move down is due to this actual fundamental change and could be "legitimate". We'll see shortly if this is a short-term issue or perhaps more [more]

Re: Time for questions this month

Booz, LINTA is not one I'm so familiar with. But they've been buying back stock and the stock price has kinda flatlined over much of the last year. Aren't they scheduled to have a spinoff of the digital ventures business? That's the component I'm [more]

Re: Time for questions this month

Hi, L8Mars,

I don't see anything new for the moment on EXETF. They appear to have a buyer for the American unit, and we're just waiting (as patiently as we can) for them to work out the kinks and announce a deal. So as far as I know, it's [more]

Re: TFSL -- why not tender?

Yes, this is a question that I really can't answer. I think the only reasonable (and defensible) guess is that they think they can buy it back cheaper than with a tender. But is that really the case? Tenders have a tendency to spike the stock [more]

Re: NRF

I think NRF is going to be fine. NSAM has an interest in growing CAD/share, so I think in the near term NRF is fine to buy on weakness. There has been some indiscriminate selling as part of the secondary and the market jitters over rising interest [more]

Re: RYAM slipping down

Hey, Marius,

I'm generally not a fan of puts, instead rather waiting for a good price and just buying the stock outright. Here it seems like a reasonable strategy to undertake. But recall that RYAM relies on commodity pricing, though it does [more]

Re: RYAM slipping down

Ooh, that IS starting to look pretty interesting. Thanks for reminding me. If we get a downturn in the market and we get an indiscriminate selloff here, this could really have a nice return over the next few years. $28 would be a pretty decent price [more]

Re: FFNW price drop?

Yep, that's what happened. You had the limit in, the stock tanked, your order got filled, and then the stock went back up. Just the vagaries of a thinly traded stock. So I suppose you're already up a nice bit on those calls. Great way to start. [more]

Re: FFNW price drop?

SegaRob, that move down is just a consequence of such a thinly traded stock. Someone puts a market order in to sell maybe 10,000 shares and the bid is so thin that the stock drops. Notice how quickly it came right back up? This stock normally does [more]

Hey, TotalReturnInvestor,

I usually don't do oil and gas stuff, because it's not in my area. It would have to be something really unusual and so obvious for me to attempt it. In general, I stay away from commodities-focused companies. The [more]

There's not a board devoted to EXETF or any other stocks I discuss in the Profit Playbook section. Dedicated stock boards are reserved for James Early's monthly selection.

Re: wpg

I'm surprised by the move downward. The acquisition is going to be accretive to FFO and the dividend will remain at $1 per share, according to the press release. So at today's closing price, the forward yield is 5.8%. And the acquisition broadens [more]
