There is no need to overweight your portfolio. Diversify over time. And remember when the market is going up everything looks wonderful and all of your decisions look good. All of that can change quickly when the market reverses itself. Market declines are our friends - it gives us a chance to buy bargains. New investors start out small. Buy small positions, so small you are not tempted to sell them, in fact, so small that when they drop you are more likely to add to them. Easing into the market in your formative years, is the best way in my opinion. You learn to grow a portfolio wisely and you don't develop a strategy based on fear which hurts investors. A strategy based on fear generally relies too much on trading.

An Interview with TMF1000
Last updated: 7/5/2007
Give a short description of your best and/or worst vacation.
Best vacation the Smokies We have places there no one knows about, People are friendly and we can isolate ourselves if we want
worse: Disney World we nearly drowned getting up there a flood cut us off in macon Georgia. We were there for hours trying to find a way out. We finally did and part of the roadway collapsed just as we got over the road bridge.
What other financial products or services do you use?
I use the gilder report to watch trends value line to keep an eye on the larger more stable companies to keep an eye on how high market caps can go. I search to see which sectors can support the largest market cap companies. This allows me to make guesses to how far new emerging companies can go before topping out. Its not exact science as companies can grow and continue to reinvent themselves.
Tell us about Your Dumbest Investment... and the lesson you learned from it.
the first year I started investing seriously I allowed a broker to use his discretion in the commodity market with $5000 of my money. Bad mistake he lost it all in a few months.
Lesson learned do my own research.
