Re: Retirement question

I think Medicare is still a good deal for us over 65 types. The cost of B, D, and Supp is getting high, as are the drug c-pays, but still manageable. But whoever said to run the numbers without employer promised insurance is spot on, as you can only [more]

Re: A different problem

It is hard to get around the Mr. Cash problem. I don't know the age involved of the one with the money and the kid, but gifting during lifetime with the best needs trust possible put into the Will might be the best that can be done. But a decent [more]

Re: Retirement Portfolio Investing - My Real Money

ZaksDad, I agree with your comments about investing playing little role in this board, but the same is true about most of the major boards here at the Motley Fool. Frankly, I don't think much about anything else you proposed or said. Keep it simple [more]

Re: It's Official: The Fool is now Money Magazine

I don't care what MM or TMF say. Both used to be good sources of reasonable financial information. Both are whores now. Whatever they say, you can bet there is a favorable financial angle in it for them. Just an opinion.

Re: Annuity & IRA Question

Hawkins, thanks for the response. Your wife and mine appear to have some things in common. I'm going to keep thinking on this, because it seems like a reasonable option given the percentage of our portfolio that would be taken away by it. I just hate [more]

Re: Early Retired 20-yr-olds Have Doubled

I haven't read of the replies, but the article actually states in several places that they are counting people as being retired who worked (probably flipping burgers) and stopped to go to college. They also included several other similar groupings. [more]

Interesting Year

This has been an unusual year for the wife and I for a number of reasons. First, it would appear to be a down or flat year in terms of portfolio performance. We are 50/50, using Vanguard funds. Don't know exactly how it will play out, but we at most [more]

Oh, and don't forget to give some consideration to the value of what you probably will inherit over the years. Plaintiff's attorneys don't mind waiting till hell freezes over to collect.

Re: Umbrella coverage

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule on this. I'm not sure that matching net worth is necessary, but that is close to what I have done, so who am I to say anything to the contrary. I would certainly have enough to cover the value of your [more]

All this reminds me of what is happening in all the larger cities in America, particularly the ones controlled for decades by liberals and unions. Chicago is a great example. It has no money for schools, roads, trash collection, police, nothing other [more]
