MetalDecathlete,

Turn on "closed captioning" (CC) while you replay the dialog section. — Radish

You can do that while streaming netflix?

I don't have netflix, so I don't know... but you can do it with live, [more]

Re: Movie Review: Ex Machina-must see

MetalDecathlete,

With all the foreign accents and slang people have, we find ourselves rewinding a part of the disk several times before we get it. If that does not work, we just skip it and hope it was not needed to understand the rest [more]

Re: powerline question

Note that most WiFi extenders just have one transceiver, and they switch it back and forth between connecting to the existing WiFi router and connecting to your laptop (or whatever device you're using).

So they are only half as fast [more]

Re: powerline question

wolferd1,

Would it work to use a Powerline adaptor to a room on the other side of the fireplace from the router, then hook another wireless router to that? Then I have problems with overlapping networks?

Should work. [more]

Re: Drop-off in Wifi Speed

BlueGrits,

Running a line wouldn't be practical because of the structure in the way and the room layout. Otherwise, yeah, I'd do that.

Well, you might try making the antenna on the WiFi router more directional, and point it [more]

Re: Drop-off in Wifi Speed

BlueGrits,

What would be the most effective way (without breaking the bank) of improving things so I can get higher speeds at that location?

The router is in an adjacent room? Wouldn't it be fairly easy, then, to run an [more]

Re: Painted popcorn ceiling

Lakedog,

Thought of replacing the drywall, but doing it myself does take some effort. And while relatively cheap, still really don't want the cost of replacing. It will be my fall back position if trying to strip it doesn't work because [more]

Re: Painted popcorn ceiling

Lakedog,

But want to redo the ceilings.

Why not just redo the ceilings then? How big of an area are you talking about? What would it cost to just tear the ceiling down entirely and put up new drywall?

Re: Office 365

Earble,

Question: do the RadiScript macros run on Office 365? A quick Google search indicates that they may not. How about Office 2013?

I was hoping someone would jump in with an answer. I'm using Office 2003 (the [more]

Re: Wired smoke/fire alarm systems

BlueGrits,

I'm wondering if the alarms are interconnected with one another (although, in the past, one going off never triggered the other). Is there any easy way to tell if they are or not? The boxes for each alarm contain three wires - [more]

Umm,

Actually, almost all those laws were written under the assumption of a marriage being one man and one woman. Not "two people". — Radish

Re: Does deleting files really speed up a PC?

stevenjklein,

All of your comments focus on browser slowdowns.

Mine didn't. I'd have given that same answer even before the invention of web browsers. Probably not on a website, but...

But apart from that issue, is there any other reason why unnecessary files would slow down a PC?

There are definitely things that slow down (a lot!) when there's a huge number of files in the temp directories. I [more]
