Re: Smoke Detector Batteries

Goofyhoofy,

Some smoke detectors specifically say not to use lithium batteries, to only use alkalines. Presumably that is because alkalines fail slowly, so the alarm can chirp at you to say "replace the battery." Lithium [more]

Re: Smoke Detector Batteries

pauleckler,

I've been using 9v alkaline batteries. They do last over two years. But I keep working on which brand is longest life.

A non-rechargeable lithium battery has the longest life. Under $7.

CCinOC,

When an animal is in dire need, no one goes around comparison shopping.

In the example you give (in another post), that's certainly true that in that particular unusual circumstance (a new pet with a life-threatening [more]

Re: Just curious...

CCinOC,

I agree with the socialist's argument that part of the reason why veterinary care isn't more exhorbitant is that pet owners, at a certain point, euthanize their pets. Surely you can't argue with this fact of life. We euthanize [more]

CCinOC,

The single most difficult concept for Man to comprehend is the absence of time. We live in time and everything we experience has an element of time within it.

"Time" is simply a shorthand way to say [more]

I'd have to agree with this rebuttal.

Bet you don't have data to back that up.

I certainly have data to back up that my veterinarian costs have been reduced by competition. Because I've done the negotiations.

You know what? You asked a [more]

I lost interest in it when I got to the "annual membership fee of $299" part (although that includes Amazon Prime).

AmazonFresh has same-day delivery.

btresist,

Re: Just curious...

btresist,

A big reason for that is that when an animal gets to the point where the medical care becomes too expensive, it typically gets put down (don't see too many dogs on dialysis).

No, that's completely wrong. The reason [more]

Re: Just curious...

btresist,

There is one big problem with the food/medicine analogy. Even in a free market, the Lobster Thermidor in a top restaurant is still expensive. Fortunately if you can't afford it, you won't die.

Well let's think about that for a bit. Suppose we treat medicine as an unregulated, commodity-type service.

I'd be inclined to change out the ignitor. The circuit board seems OK and the ignitor could be causing the problem.
