An alternate route (which I drove today) is to take highway 9 west from norman. Exit on Meridan and go through the town of Newcastle (which was also hit but not as bad). Meridian will turn into I-44 which will take you all the way into Tulsa

Also if you have map aps on your phone, use those tomorrow to check traffic slowdowns and judge for yourself if the detour is worth it or if traffic is flowing well enough to make it through with minimal delays.

There is no reason to avoid the area now. I-35 is open and there is a slight delay from looky-loos but nothing like the delay you would have trying to go around OKC completely.

If you insist on detouring around the area, you can take hwy 9 [more]
