Re: Cancer Treatments' Possible Side Effects

Well, the 48-hour Holter monitor reported nothing remarkable. A cardiologist will do nothing until they get results from an "event" that is recorded.

I'm at the end of the second week of a 30-day monitoring period. I had at least [more]

Re: Cruz picks Fiorina as a running mate. . . .

I read The Hobbit because of all the buzz but found it less compelling than Halliday and Resnick.

I never managed to get past the first few chapters in Lord of the Rings. My Physics classes ensured I read and understood Halliday and [more]

Re: Brit Builds Hoverbike

I assume the energy used to "hover" is batteries. I sure didn't see any gas tanks<g>. That would seem to limit its range.

Personally, I'll stick to pedal power and the ground.

Re: Pay off my home early

Personally, at age 41, I'd be contributing to my retirement fund first.

Twenty years can see a lot of growth in investments over the longer horizon, but that depends upon some answers you'll give to:

Is the retirement fund in a [more]

Agreed. We have a 2010 VW Sportwagen TDI. It's a good car for the road.

VW isn't going to pay owners the price of a new car. Instead, they'll pay the price of the used car as of 8/2015, before the cheating info went public. So [more]

Re: Not trying to pick on progressives

Don't forget the Silent Majority, who preceded the Boomers. Quite a few of those folks still vote at the polling place I work, although I don't think some should be allowed to because of dementia that their spouses help.

Re: Boomers in Maryland

I repeat, most Boomers ages stops between 69-70. The Silent Generation still votes, although in somewhat diminished numbers. Please stop counting anyone older than 69-70 in your stats and calling them Boomers. They aren't.

Re: Bernie..last gasp of Old Democrats

I just took a look at the table you linked to. The category was 65 & over going for Romney in 2012. If one is at the leading edge of the Boomer generation, they were maybe 66. That leaves a whole lot of non-Boomers who were older than that, who [more]

Re: Bernie..last gasp of Old Democrats

If it was just white boomers it was closer to 70%.

That's very unlikely. Boomers aren't the only age group who votes. There are people older and younger who vote.

I'm a leading edge Boomer. I can barely find another Democrat in my age group except my black friends.

Here's one!

His problem is he didn't do the groundwork to be nominated or elected.

I have no idea how long he thought about running. My guess is probably not very long (a few months?) before he announced.

WHO Cancer Assessments Aren't What You Think

It seems the research arm of the World Health Organization isn't a lab that tests substances as possible carcinogens. Instead, scientists read the available scientific literature and assign a substance to a group. For example, Group I contains [more]

This was his second hip replacement. First time hip replacement is pretty well infection free (around 1%). He had that for over 18 years. Infection is much more likely on the second time around.

Our first house was a 30x30 foot Cape w/ a shed on a 3,000 sq. ft. lot in a Boston suburb in 1978. We paid around $40K. Moved back to the St. Louis area in 1980 and bought a 2,300 sq. ft. raised ranch for $86K. Sold that house in 2010 for $425k after [more]

Depends on the size of the tree doesn't it? And I'm not so sure large size would be a detriment. The more steel around you the better off you'll be.

So you basically want a souped up tank?
