Re: OT: NYC Stuff - and an educational rant

Jeff,

I know you are proud of your HS, but consider that the five HS's that you identified for Nobel recipients are drawing from a very large population. Not knowing exactly when you entered HS, I'm guessing that the NY city population was [more]

How Star Wars Explains Constitutional Law

Cass Sunstein thinks Constitutional Law is akin to a serial novel, adapting to the forces of the current time and how new things impact society. He uses the Star Wars movies as an example. (He's seriously into Star Wars. About half the article [more]

Re: Retirement Age: Belief vs. Reality

I switched from third-level support to IT QA after an acquisition - mostly to eke out a few more years. I was really tired of trying to keep up with new versions of software releases and turn in bug reports.

I waited until I was given a [more]

Re: taking care of friend

I find myself doing the IV antibiotic once a day through an IV PICC line. It's not difficult. The insurance helps on the cost of the antibiotic. It doesn't cover the cost of the IV paraphernalia. All told, it's costing us around $200/week for the IV [more]

He's Home!

After looking at the options (Rehab Hospital, Nursing home, etc.) we decided he'd come home. We're renting a hospital bed ($18/mo) and acquired a commode. We already had crutches and a walker. There's an in-home service for IV infusions, as well as a [more]

Well, that was a disappointment. All the specialist said was that you have an infection and proceeded to quote the "gold standard" of 6 weeks with the spacer in place and continuing IV antibiotics. He didn't even say what the infecting [more]

Well, they've got the old hardware out of MDH, but he's still showing signs of an infection while on vancomycin in an IV drip. An infectious disease specialist is going to examine him tomorrow morning.

Wish us luck!

FM,

I use notepade for the draft before pasting text into TMF. Works like a champ, since I know that using fancy formatting in MS Word won't transfer very well to a text-based board.
