Re: Banks Sometimes Do VERY Dumb Things.

Oh, hey, me too! Especially as I get older!!! But this was a LARGE bank, with maybe 50,000 accounts/people. For them to do this -- and thus enable countless strangers to empty other people's accounts like that? Unimaginable.

Re: Anemic growth of nuclear power from 2016 to

Does it matter? We're back to the "what if" thing I was talking about. If there was no red tape, then costs would be lower. But there is red tape. That's reality. And you could "what it" it the other way too. Perhaps [more]

Re: college Nazi

Most folks who go for a PhD in the sciences are interested in research. You pretty much have to be since that's what a science PhD is about. Engineering is somewhat different as it is very application-oriented, and so I would expect a lot more [more]

What's the advantage of holding out for 8 years? Just less frequent replacement? Medicare wouldn't be until 65, right? (Assuming they don't raise the age, which they might within the next 8 years.)

Expected lifetime of the [more]

My wife is trying to make it to age 60 before getting a knee replacement. She has 8 more years of hobbling around.

Look, here is the point you are missing. Life science PhDs not being able to get desirable jobs is a big and growing problem. For a while now there have been numerous studies describing the issue. This is illustrated by the rise in the number of [more]

Re: why retire early?

Will it make a material difference in your retirement years?

Yes.

The company would have to offer me enough money to make a material change in my retirement to get me to stay. Increasing my nest-egg by 20-30%, or more. [more]

Re: EV charging solution for condos

From the article, the issue I see is a space issue if there is significant demand among the condo owners. They call it a "boring little box" but they don't provide any specs in the article. Just from the photos of the 100 unit electric [more]
