Re: BRICS fund to rival IMF

The strategic under-story is that it weakens the requirement for nations to keep vast US dollar reserves and boosts the value of the Chinese Yuan(CNY) as a substitute/parallel reserve currency. Not only does this conversion destabilize the the US [more]

OT: New toy cometh

Those who have followed my wanderings have lived through the trashing of my tiny Sony Vaio by an over enthusiastic Avis driver and its subsequent repair by the cannibalization of a second one picked up on E-Bay. Then it was busted a couple of trips [more]

Re: Travel envelopes/cubes

One of the criteria I have for the specifications of larger suitcases (the primary three being that they are hard side, light-weight and clamp [rather than zipper] closured) is for them to be sealed with a waterproof gasket.

Re: OT: NYC Stuff - and an educational rant

Actually, the point wasn't to brag about my high school, but rather point out (in the context of a statistically large sample) that stratifying the student body by separating out the gifted for enhancement does work. Yes, it's true that each grade's [more]

Re: answer to OT: NYC Stuff and a rant

Good point (though expected - as we Brooklyn boys sometimes forget that the Bronx exists).

OT: NYC Stuff - and an educational rant

Today, went to the opening of the new Whitney Museum building (don't near the High Line park). Nice building, broad collection. Not all modern art is art :-) The collection panders to names rather than good taste in my opinion.
