Re: Walmart Rejects Apple Pay...For Now...

One of the staples of antitrust law is exclusive dealing arrangements. Don't you think that Apple somewhere has lawyers researching the antitrust implications of MCX?

No there is nothing "exclusive" about MCX.

Re: Owners report - Mini Cooper S

I wish Mini would build the Rocketman - I'd consider that little death trap. I had an opportunity decades ago to drive a RHD real Mini S ( I want to say a '64).

To this day, the most fun all around car I've ever driven.

In Happier News, At Least Fire Was No Kin

Microsoft managed to lose one billion dollars with a B in just six weeks on Kin after the write down. I suspect a couple of decades from now they'll be digging in some mythical landfill looking for the buried Kin phones, right next to the E.T. [more]

Re: Walmart Rejects Apple Pay...For Now...

Here’s a teaser for my annual predictions column that runs every New Year: CurrentC will fail to gain adoption in 2015 and at least 1/3 of merchants on the list will make clear they will support NFC. That support will allow customers to use Apple [more]

Re: Apple Pay Already Unique

I think the point is that retailers want to make it easy for you to spend money. They're willing to pay 3-5% (or whatever) on every sale, because they know (as does Dave Ramsay) that people tend to spend more if they use a debit card than they use [more]

Re: Apple Pay Already Unique

You would be shovked how technology adverse retailers are. Large retailer back end systems are based on databases that are 30, 40 years old and considered too mission critical to touch. Virtualization and data transformation is huge. Deployment costs [more]

Re: Walmart Rejects Apple Pay...For Now...

You seem confused. Why do you assume that Apple Pay must exclude all others? There is nothing stopping a phone from offering, nor a retailer from accepting, multiple payment platforms. Just like your leather wallet carries, and your retailer [more]

Argh, wish you could edit a post. Even wrote five supported, then counted one more time, saw four (outside of Apple), scratched my head on where number five went, looked again, changed it to four clicked submit - then realized that Meijer is typed in [more]

Just 3,700 stores out of nine million control 8% of every consumer transaction.

I don't think Tiffany's really cares about what Walmart and 7-Eleven do.

Then you don't understand retail.

For example. Ask Helzberg Diamonds who their biggest competitor is.

Walmart.

Did you know Walmart [more]

The only ones I can imagine are those who have a major stake in a competing platform. Those are few. WalMart and Amazon and eBay and probably Alibaba and Google.

You should do more research, the number of retailers and banks working [more]

It is compatible with the NFC readers - not a surprise - but the API layers used are very different.

Re: Apple Pay Already Unique

I suspect that, long-term, a system like Apple Pay will become more dominant than a system requiring the presence of the actual card.

A solution like this is all about marketshare.

You even write about how much better an Apple TV would be from a user experience stand point.

Re: Walmart Rejects Apple Pay...For Now...

One last thought - another fast way to expand Apple Pay - license the technology to Android and Windows devices.

The more devices that can accept Apple Pay, the more pressure it puts on retailers to accept the payment methodology.

Walmart Rejects Apple Pay...For Now...

This doesn't bode well for Apple pay.

Oh I know, the long knives have come out already. I'm questioning the Apple again.

So no need for brake service and oil leak was deemed acceptable?

Those prices are far more reasonable, the spark plug replacement price is down right value priced - they used 100K mile platinum tipped plugs - yes?
