Re: Drive it until it falls apart?

The car is paid off and it has been paid off for the last 5 years. The only problems I've had out of it is the Catalytic Converter. I replaced it with an after market converter about 4 years ago and now it's looking like I might need another one. [more]

Re: Drive it until it falls apart?

Keep until the wheels fall off.

150K Miles's a psychological number and you've gone past it. At that point, regardless of who makes the vehicles, things like AC compressors, master cylinders, brake lines, alternators, start to get hinky. [more]

Total Nimrod. Brains of a head of lettuce, yada yada.

Someone has to climb the trees looking for fruit right?

Don't Know If Layoffs Will Help Microsoft

So the word is spreading like wildfire - the post-Ballmer restructuring is coming to Microsoft. I don't think this should be a big surprise, and the word is the cuts will be deeper than 2009-10 when 5,800 people (including your author in the last [more]

Re: The evidence is clear...

If this is true, no complaints here.

Bought at the absolute basement, and if true selling at the absolute peak. Bought a home in a very desirable neighborhood that had languished 9 months on the market with two price drops at about $200K [more]

Mutual Acceptance Post Inspection

It ain't over until the escrow papers are signed and your closed, but the last big milestone as a seller is crossed (the buyers get to have fun with mortgage bankers, setting up utilities, escrow, but I digress).

The only issue found was a [more]

Re: Best Burnout Ever!!

Dumbest burnout ever.

I'm deeply in favor of burnouts, but combining prolonged cheating with equipment abuse is just dumb...

Didn't that era GM fullsize have fuel tank issues?

Intentionally destroying an operating piece of [more]

Bothell House Sold

Was on the market four days (technically). I say technically as it was listed 7/3 in the PM and I don't think it would come as shock there as no action on 7/4.

Had 14 come through on Saturday alone, got an above asking price offer on Tuesday [more]

Re: First they came for our floppy discs

Steven, I've been using 3.5 mm aka 1/8" mono and stereo connectors since the 70s - a couple hundred million devices is a drop in the bucket compared to the billion and billion devices.

The Walkman used a 1/8" stereo adapter - aka [more]

Cornish also recently sat down with 9-to-5 Mac writer Jordan Kahn to discuss why the Lightning port might be good for consumers in the long run and how Apple has always been ahead of the industry game. You can read a transcript of that [more]

Re: Why programmers don't like C

C is vastly easier. Assembly doesn't even have simple loops, lacks support for all but the most primitive data types.

Having coded in both completely agree. C is vastly easier than assembly language.

Re: Transmission Fluid Servicing

I will add I would do a drain/flush/replace but I would not do a power flush for the reasons stated above. There is a difference. A power flush they use a pump to circulate fluid at pressure through your tranny, as old fluid is left behind in the [more]

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and once again YES.

Do not ignore.

If you auto tranny has a filter you should replace at the same time.

After 100K miles I would recommend tranny fluid every 50K miles and the filter every 100K [more]

What does the owner's manual and warranty paperwork say?

Follow that.

With that said, if the service interval is XXX miles for a timing belt, I would follow it like religion. You can skip the 3K mile oil change these days generally [more]
