Re: Soon to retire question

Responding to AJ's post, once J goes to PT, there will be no more 403b contributions. We've been maxing out roth IRAs for years (and have already for this year). We can continue to do that (assuming she makes more than 13K next year), and [more]

Re: Soon to retire question

Chuck, you are right, we do have a pretty large next egg! We don't spend much, we save, and I got a strong inheritance! I didn't mention in this thread, though I have before, that Jan has a pension we are already taking, which includes health [more]

Re: Soon to retire question

I think the flip side of question is from which account do we take the 2% we are needing to withdraw for living.

Or, is Jan, my wife, putting this money in her 403b for three months, only for us to then withdraw it for living.

Why [more]

Re: Soon to retire question

Telegraph, yes we can afford to retire. We can withdraw 2% from our portfolio and have enough $$. (SS is being left to grow.) There is no match on the 403b, just an automatic contribution from her employee. I am 56. The two years savings is to be [more]

Soon to retire question

I don't work and my wife will be "retiring" in November. She will still be working, but is going from 40 hrs a week to 10-15 hours. This is great, actually, to have this bit of money coming in. And because she will be working from home, [more]

Re: Divs to Fund RMDs

A tangent question --

I also own one of these inherited IRAs and take an annual RMD (I'm 55). If there is still money in this account when I die, my wife or my kids will inherit it. I assume they still need to take RMDs, [more]

Re: RMDs

thanks for the heads-up on the taxes issue -- if I do this, I'll make sure to take care of that issue. I probably won't take much more than required, just thinking about where retirement money will come from!!

RMDs

I take an RMD for a beneficiary IRA. Is there any reason why I can't take more than the minimum? Yes, I know I will be taxed on it. I am 55.
