Locking in a gain here would have been nice. The stock that started this thread did the one thing that bugs me most: went from being a big winner (+40% in a small time frame) to being a loser. Urgh!

Once one of my positions hits a gain of 25%, I place a trailing stop of 5% on it. That way, I continue to ride the uptrend, but keep some protection.

by definition the value (and presumably right price) for any financial asset is the present value of the future discounted cash flows which it is capable of paying, period.

It is very frustrating, but OTOH I'm still hanging on to that 18-19% CAGR over those last 8.5 years

Versus 5% CAGR on SPY from 3/6/2006 to this past Friday. Nice job.

At one year holds with trading friction it backtests around 19%/year.

Interesting that the SD is higher with timing, even though the Max DD and the Sortino are better.
