Re: The Last Ship 072014

Reminds me of Star Trek:Voyager without The Prime Directive.

My son and I were thinking it could be merged with Helix. And then it would pit the plastic surgeon from Grays Anatomy (Seattle) against the mayor of Seattle from The [more]

Re: Nobody Is Watching The Tour de France

I countered with the contrast in sports where a bloke gets back on his bike vs. one where it's the norm to take a dive to the floor and writhe in *agony* following a tap that a frail 95 yo with a Zimmer frame wouldn't even notice.

Re: 30 Day Squat Challenge #10

Show off! :)
I rode my usual ~8 miles.
67 miles would kill me.

I am really feeling it today, it's the most I've done in almost 2 yrs and I did it basically cold, no build up. I did it around a speed I might have before, the [more]

Re: Andrian Beltre HOF???

Beltre was a poor performer for the Mariners and that will hurt him. He did (much) better for the Red Sox and Rangers. It's not clear that he's improved with age as much as he left Safeco Field.

He was projected for greatness in the [more]

Re: 30 Day Squat Challenge #10

Today a 90 minute bike ride. Was sweating by the time we got home and I almost never sweat (hate it). So I guess I got a decent amount of exercise. FitnessPal said I earned. A whole bunch of extra calories. :)

I sweat a lot no matter [more]

Re: Nobody Is Watching The Tour de France

I would be looking forward to tomorrow's stage but am going for a bike ride instead. Will watch the recording later. It's kind of a benefit of Pacific time that it can be the morning get-ready soundtrack as long as I don't mind dribbling into work a [more]

Re: Nobody Is Watching The Tour de France

I am digging this year's race. I like the cobbles and rain. I like aggressive descents. I like seeing guys who can ride their bikes in other conditions than straight uphill w/ promises of no attacks if they forget how to shift. I do wish Contador [more]

No Felix Hernandez. Or Mike Trout/Miguel Cabrera.

Re: Panem et Circenses

I cannot believe the glee with which my fellow Clevelanders are heralding the return of the jerk LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

They would be super-duper thrilled if the Ravens leave Baltimore to go back to Lake Erie.

Re: Now I'm wondering...

I have Keen clipless sandals & when the temp hits high 80s or higher, I wear them. I'm not sure of the longest distance I have ridden in them but I know it's at least 40 miles. I'm pretty sure Teva makes them, too.

Keens are too [more]

Re: Now I'm wondering...

I like those A530s, I have a pair; the best thing is you can ride barefoot on the platform side. That was my biggest disappointment when I got my 1st 10 speed as a kid, the rat trap pedals where basically just saws to destroy your bare feet as [more]

Re: Clubhouse Confidential trivia

I have no problem with starters not finishing these days, the demands of the job have changed, but I have scant regard for 'closers'.

Except for guys who came by it honestly after a useful career as a starter. Walter Johnson could [more]

Re: Clubhouse Confidential trivia

When these guys came into games it was usually with the game on the line. They were certainly not limited to pitching the 9th inning with a lead. If you look at relief pitchers in the 1960's you will see a lot of guys with years broadly similar to [more]
