Re: Fire!

Last night (or actually evening) we could see smoke from the fire, and the water-droppng helicopters and airplanes.

Today, we went to the area (The Village - a restaurant/tourist area), and had dinner. Nothing to see. Couldn't even smell

Re: Massive bike block

Have you ever considered doing relay triathlons where you do the cycling leg of the race?

That's a great idea. I know runners and swimmers too so it wouldn't be too hard to pull together.

Re: Massive bike block

Running 26.2 is less than a mile per day for a month. Even a very slow running should be able to bang that out in < 15 minutes per day.

I am getting a late start, so >1 mile a day the rest of the way. I actually ran a mile and a [more]

Re: This Freezing Thing....

I buy 2 flats a week of blueberries and the lady asks if we freeze them, but we just eat them, buy them Saturday, they are gone by Tuesday.

I have a vacuum packer but I only use it for fish. I tell my wife I would like to use it for kale or [more]

Re: Massive bike block

A friend proposed, and my wife and I are participating in, a time-lag triathlon where we take a month to do the ironman distances. I am going to triple if not quadruple the cycling but I have no earthly idea how I am going to do the running.

Re: Seeking Recommendations

There's a huge back catalog of expired shows that are probably worth attention, but we're looking for something still airing (although we can certainly catch up), so that we can make it part of our routine.

Oh nevermind then...

Re: Had To Share This Thingy

Used it today (it arrived today) on a stainless steel pot - no soap - clean! Wow. Wish I had known about this a long time ago.

Do you need soap to clean the chainmail thingy? It looks cool, but there are stainless scrubbies that have [more]

Re: Tubes or Tubeless

I've never ridden tubeless tires, and given the bother they seem to be, I doubt I ever will. But I'd like to understand why people do ride on them. I know all the TdF riders use them because, as I understand, they are more stable when they [more]

Re: Newspaper gripe

No one seems to really report the news anymore.

We have one local reporter for school things and one for 'business'. We don't have one for gov't although we have interesting county and city gov'ts as well as the state capital too.

Re: Newspaper gripe

We get the L.A. Times and the local Daily Breeze. It seems to us we should get a discount rate if we get online delivery instead of actual paper. The papers say "No deal." Should save them some printing and delivery costs, [more]

road tubeless

A few weeks ago I set up some tubeless-ready rims and tires w/ no sealant, and they actually held air for a couple hours, so I could pump them up in the morning, commute in, pump them up in the afternoon, commute home. Didn't trust them for a century [more]

Re: Bicycle routes make cities safer for all.

If you shower in the morning, you need to be able to cool off before starting work, but you really don't need ANOTHER shower.

That's my experience too.

Re: Bicycle routes make cities safer for all.

Already Seattle has many miles of exclusive bike lanes from which automobiles aere excluded. I rarely see another cyclist using them in most cases.

Someone who can ride in unsorted traffic generally isn't patient enough to ride in a [more]
