Re: Becoming more convinced

I can only assume you are talking about Jedi. I used to have somewhat normal (non-political) conversations with him on RECF years ago. But I think he's gone completely off the rails. He started ranting all the time in every forum - hysterical [more]

Re: Engineering for K-12 needed

Agree 100% with ellipsoid. I started as an art history major, but the thing that got me into engineering was all my fantastic experimental physics classes in (my public!) high school (plus a GREAT HS calculus course). In those classes, science was [more]

Re: Marriott--Tip Envelopes in Rooms Program

Kind of shocked how many people are against this. My parents always did it, and I was brought up taught it was something you always did. Once or twice when I've forgotten I felt quite bad about it afterwards.

Re: Key to Happy Retirement is Good Health

My 77-year old Dad is hiking the San Juan di Campostella Trail as we speak - 12-16 miles a day, in hilly country. He's always been active, and remains so to this day. Mom had some hip issues that slowed her down, but is doing much better after [more]

CJV - you could maybe do frittatas without onions in addition to the usual grilled meat/salad options?

I made this salad for a picnic last week, and it was delicious. Even people who said they don't like carrots liked it. It's going to be a keeper in my rotation.

Re: Free-range hens 'are least healthy' .

Boy has this veered far from where it started. It wasn't about government regulation of food, or eggs, or school lunches anything of the sort. Just disease statistics.

You know what I love that's disease susceptible? Sushi! Oysters! Ground [more]

Re: Free-range hens 'are least healthy' .

Tons of people in my town raise hens. The eggs from those birds are certainly much tastier, with brighter, yellower yolks than the store-bought ones. I love it when I get some from people with more patience to deal with livestock than [more]

Re: You need $100K a year, at least?

If you are living in the high rent district, you probably aren't in a ghetto, and the public schools are probably just fine.
Not true here. While Oakland isn't as expensive as SF yet (only $3K for a one-bedroom flat, not $4K), it's got [more]

Re: Credit Card for use in Europe

When I was in Italy some ATMs didn't take CCs unless they were chip and pin enabled. And in Malaysia I had a few vendors not be able to deal with the card. But mostly it's been OK without chip & pin.

I used to do this on a regular basis: sign up for 6 months at 50%, cancel at 6 months. Wait 3 months until they offered it again, and sign up again. Rinse and Repeat. I get Sunday only, and can't do just digital as the main thing I get it for is the [more]

Re: Dressing up

It's not joust non-skinny women who have a hard time finding clothes to fit off the rack. It's ANY women with curves. They design for skinny, flat, board-like women with broad shoulders. I'm pretty thin, but I have a big butt and a tiny waist and [more]

Re: 13 Mistakes of 20-Somethings

Dunno - I was single all through my 20's, 30's, 40's because I wanted to find my "soul mate" or not bother committing to any one person. And at 48, I did. I have no regrets about not getting married earlier. Being single is a perfectly fine [more]

Have you looked at J. Jill? they're not the most super-exciting, but they have good basic pieces. I bought a loose, black sleeveless dress there a few years ago that's been a good basic piece for me. I layer it a lot, or sometimes wear it with bright [more]
