Tuni - as I read this whole thread - a few questions come up

What symptoms did you observe?

How did you determine an activity running the in the background was/might be interfering with superduper?

Re: Activity in background

It is a computer and sometimes crap happens. As a first step -

#1 Reboot the PC
#2 Look at your dock and turn off stuff you don't really need. You should be able to leave on and use without any issue - browser and Apple Mail.
#3 Fire [more]

Re: Uncluttered Desktop

Sorry - I misread myself. Can't blame lack of coffee. More likely senility. (Somebody told me it gets worse, but I forgot who.)

I don't doubt someone has written a cluttered desktop slows down a PC - you can find anything on the Internet. For example:

Re: Wireless backup

If my understanding about Crashplan is correct, when you are away from your home, you are obtaining files by uploading them from through your ISP. Uploading is generally a factor between 5 and 10 times slower than downloading. That is not much of an [more]

Re: Wireless backup

Mick I have used an Apple TimeCapsule since the current model (June 2013) came out. Works perfectly with our two Macs. I image there is a limited number, but would be shocked if it didn't cover the number of devices you have.

Re: iCloud Password?

Your suspicion about a password request is reasonable. I may be too trusting. I just find the relative OSX security such a breath of fresh air compared to my decades with DOS and DOS Senior (aka Windows).

Re: Cautious Optimism - Quicken

Your memory is correct. I tried Quicken 2007 for Mac. It did an inconsistent (perfect to poor) job of importing. Categories were limited in the total "path" length, so if you used folders and tended to names beyond 5 or 8 character, your [more]

Re: New iPhone; Best Approach?

I suspect you will get the lowest total cost if you get a family plan. Also the traditional contract is about the most expensive way to go. The plans are set up so you pay for the phone over 2 years. Keep it one month longer and you have made a 25th [more]
