Re: Can you explain this please?

1. Not logged into the hotel Wifi properly

2. Hotel is blocking the app

3. Hotel's internet connection is swamped from all the other people trying to stream the World Cup, and you couldn't get enough bandwidth

PS - I still think the moon icon is wrong, but wdik?

I suspect, but have no real knowledge, that the moon symbol is a more recognizable cross-cultural symbol for "night mode" than anything else. And that night mode is more [more]

Re: iPad rumorville

Here's the buttons I see:
An airplane (I guess this one is airplane mode - turning off all of the various radios)
Three curved arcs - which I suspect is wifi
A Bluetooth logo - perhaps that one turns off Bluetooth
A crescent moon -

Re: iPad rumorville

Reading this reminded me that the original Airport Base Station was exactly that — a Wi-Fi router with a built-in modem for dial-up service.

Oh, man, I forgot about those. The flying saucer shaped units. I had one of them.

OK, in the Internet Sharing item in System Prefs, only three options are available when Airport is selected. Ethernet, Firewire, and USB Ethernet (en2). But no Wifi....

And the use of the iBook's abilities as a hotspot is another thing I hadn't considered. My son had used his mini as a hotspot in his home a while back, so I need to look into how or if that, dialup/Wifi can be enabled... OS 10.5.7 is where it's [more]

Re: iPad rumorville

Still no answer to a way to use dialup access. Brother's cabin is out beyond any cellular link, even our VZ iPhones die out there, but they do have a POTS line, the old G4 iBook works by simply using my ISPs local access number.. Maybe have to [more]

Re: Opinions of DirecTV Genie?

We've had the original Genie (HR34) about 18 months. It works great most of the time. Occasionally it gets slow and non-responsive and I have to reboot it. But my old HR21s did that too. The newer model (HR44) has a faster processor and by the [more]

Re: Propane vs. wood stove

You might want to find out if your wood stoves can be converted to burn wood pellets. Pellet burners are very popular here in northern Michigan. And no, I'm a summer only visitor up here. No way would I stay in this part of the country in the winter. [more]

Now I'm curious. Where do you legally obtain movies which you can copy to USB but they don't have a player and downloader for the iPad?

Well, you could copy them from DVDs you own. Most people (myself included) consider that legal, [more]

Too late for what? iOS already has a HUGE developer base, and this will make it even easier for new developers to join the ecosystem. The statistics are already [more]

Question for the software heads here: would you categorize Swift as a 'catch up' innovation relative to the competition, especially Microsoft? Or does it fall short or Microsoft, or does it leap ahead of Microsoft?

Does it relate to the

You're sending an e-mail that includes a picture of that e-mail in it? (Or am I misunderstanding you?) And this is something you do regularly?

Darn Fool lack of editing. It was supposed to be "include a picture in it".
