Re: Roku vs DVD player

Unless you actually USE your DVD player, replace it with a Roku or maybe an AppleTV. The dedicated boxes actually get upgraded with new capabilities ("channels") fairly often, while you're unlikely to get many software updates for an [more]

Re: Intro and Laptop on Tablecloth

Just close the screen so it goes to sleep. Laptops use very little power when in sleep mode.

Re: Qt. re Wireless Security

If you replace the switch with a router, protect the router admin interface, and DON'T turn on Wifi in the router, you'll be doing pretty good on protecting the Macs. With that setup, the wireless clients and the wired clients are essentially on [more]

Re: Qt. re Wireless Security

My question is: Will activating wireless for my tablet open a door for intruders to access our MacBooks? In other words, can an intruder somehow use our wireless access to connect to the ethernet cables that connect our MacBooks?

Yes. [more]

Re: iPhone deleting emails

Then it's probably the POP client on your desktop that's deleting them from the server. The iPhone is IMAP only, so once it's gone from the server INBOX it's just gone. If you want emails to stay in your server INBOX indefinitely, you should switch [more]

Are they set up for IMAP on both the phone and the desktop, or is the desktop POP?

Re: iPhone deleting emails

What email provider? iCloud? GMail? Something else? Do you have multiple email accounts, and if so does it happen to email in all the accounts?

Re: Testing a phone

I'm on my third iPhone. I've never seen an easy way to open them to get at the innards. Good luck.

What does that have to do with the original question? SIM cards aren't hard to swap, and that's the only access the OP needs.

Re: Testing a phone

I think that would work. Worse case is you could take it to a Sprint store and see if they can test it.

Re: odd Apple Mail problem

But I have an iPad that has our email accounts (wife and mine) and unfortunately, it suffers the same malady, with no way to maintain distinct users.

You might want to look at some of the alternative email programs for the iPad, and [more]

Mail addressed to any unique individual should be [more]

Re: odd Apple Mail problem

It may not make sense to you, but you're doing something very non-standard.

If your friend has sent an invite to you, using two different email addresses (both of which are yours), would you consider the current behavior to be correct?

Re: odd Apple Mail problem

We do keep each other's email Inboxes on our computers and iPhones, but as separate folders.

The only way you can do that is if your devices are configured with BOTH email accounts. When you do that, the mail app doesn't know which is [more]

Re: speaking of passwords

I don't see why they would be. Dashes are fine in passwords for most sites. Occasionally I'll run into a site that alphanumeric only (no symbols), but that's fairly rare.
