Re: Two Unorthodox Ways to Pay Off a Mortgage Ea

You left out an important parameter. Timeframe. For what timeframe are you saying IUL is the safest and best?
Any time frame of at least 5+ years (since the entire premise is for
use as a MFA account in the first place,) on an [more]

Hi VQ,

Ok. Were you going to discuss supply?
I did, and you quoted it;
As Boomers continue to leave the wage-earning stage, they bring higher and higher supplies of capital to the markets

Hi Ray,

You keep harping on this "safety" mantra, and that any non-IUL portfolio needs to have, like, 80% in near-cash and only 20% in stocks to have the same "safety" as an IUL. I just realized what you're doing [more]

Re: Two Unorthodox Ways to Pay Off a Mortgage Ea

Hi AJ,

So quit trying to sell an IUL as a way that everyone will end up with more money - because 90%+ won't.

Talk about 'FUD'... do you have *any* link to support that, or are you conjuring the 90% figure from your [more]

Re: Second home for Relative?

Hi Ed,
Sounds like this relative is currently, or will soon become, a tax dependent of yours, yes?

If so, you may qualify for financing colloquially known as "kiddie kondo terms" through either FHA, or Fannie/Freddie (in other [more]

Aside from all the fundamentalist tea-leaf mutterings.... I've been explaining why interest rates are going to stay low (very low) for decades... 'As long as the Boomer roam the earth' to be specific;

It boils down to Econ 101, supply & [more]

Or it could be that the fund was developed because the founder
has a particular expertise in how to exploit bearish markets... and
that's why he's been quiet the past 5 years, and barking now?

Re: Two Unorthodox Ways to Pay Off a Mortgage Ea

Hi AJ,

At minimum, whatever amount an individual decides they want safe from
market loss risk, they should get the best rewards on that safe money
available.
Well, that's the IUL religion talking. I'm okay with keeping

Re: Two Unorthodox Ways to Pay Off a Mortgage Ea

Hi Ray,

There is a danger than nobody has talked about yet. A multi-year Japan-type decline. The return of an IUL is linked to stocks. If stocks sink year after year, the IUL return will be zero (the floor) for all those years. [more]

Hi AJ,

That is why some people choose some amount of their money that they do not want, or cannot afford, to lose... and they put it in safe accounts that are guaranteed, insured, and protected against market losses.
I would

Why would anyone do that?

Hi Ray,

Dave, even CC's spreadsheet shows that the IUL loses.
Cath's sheet fails to keep the naked position as safe annually as the
IUL position. That's why it fails.

Re: Two Unorthodox Ways to Pay Off a Mortgage Ea

Hi Ray,

If you want to compare like-to-like, you'd have to use static longterm
market averages for both IUL and S&P500. Or use actual historical data for both.

Fine by me... I don't expect it to make a huge [more]
