Re: Cramer: Why next week is so important

Cramer is displeased because Cree has a record of surprise quarterly misses. He is certainly right about that.

Re: Comparing the new v. the old 60 W bulb

You may be right about using 8 rather than 10 XB-G LEDs and then driving them harder. Doing so means having to remove nearly 11 Watts of heat rather than the 9 Watts in Gen 2. The solution they have used would be the most important part of the [more]

Comparing the new v. the old 60 W bulb

The old one gives 800 Lumens from 9.5 W. The new one which does not have the heavy heat sink gives 815 Lumens from 11 Watts. The difference is 15 more lumens while needing 1.5 more watts. Here is my speculation:

1. The 15 additional Lumens [more]

Re: the new bulb

For most applications, I would prefer the old 9.5 W bulb even if it is heavy because the heat sink cannot be seen. I am guessing this new bulb will be updated to one using less than 9.5 W within about a year. I hope to see some old bulbs for sale at [more]

Re: Samsung scales down LED lighting as outlook dims

If Cree really does have well protected IP related to SC5 and other high efficiency, high power LEDs which will result in cost savings such as smaller power supplies and heat sinks, they could soon knock out the competition. Highly efficient lighting [more]

Re: Why Lextar wrt SC5

Cree has already introduced a Troffer with 150 lumen/Watt efficiency. This efficiency is not likely to be achievable with Lextar midpower LEDs. If SC5 LEDs are of such high efficiency that they reduce or eliminate the costs of providing heat sinking [more]

Re: Cree graphic on SC5

PCB = Printed Circuit Board. It is not only the board but all of the components thereon. Most of the components would make up the AC to DC power supply. LEDs require a DC supply, typically about 4 volts for a single LED or LEDs in Parallel. LEDs in [more]

Re: Cree graphic on SC5

Higher lumen efficiency means less power is required for the same amount of light output. Less power means a smaller power source on a smaller Printed Circuit Board. Less power means reduced heat sinking requirement. Note in the graphic you linked [more]
