Re: Question On Selling BRK.B

Wulong,

Nice site. I calculated our retirement and that was sort of interesting. Then I thought what about WEB?

I gave him 20 years, said he had 40B and needed 4M a year to live...

Needless to say, the site said that he [more]

Re: BRK the answer to fear of loss

The answer to fear of loss, is to accept that it hurts when you loose, but that there is nothing to be done about it.

WEB has said that if you can't stomach a 50% loss in stock price, then you should not be in Berkshire.

That could [more]

FWIW: I think that the days of manic buyers who will pay more that 1.7 of book are behind us.

As Charlie has said we need to lower our expectations.

But he likely was referring to not only the rate of growth in market for this [more]

Re: Question On Selling BRK.B

Thanks to everyone who posted on this interesting thread. Selling has always been hard for me... But with retirement one must sell and the feeling to sell more now based on book value alone has been strong.

If the friend with 1.7M in [more]

Re: Question On Selling BRK.B

This thread is so interesting. On one hand one wants to sell only when the Book value to market price is above 1.5ish, but if you sell annually no matter what the market price is compared to book value is, that is ok too.

Re: Tax Tip: Capital Gains and Qualified Divs

So, just to make sure I understand this correctly... short term capital gains and dividends are taxed like normal salary, and do affect adjusted gross income?

I thought I understood this, but now want to double [more]

Jim,

Thanks so much. We are thinking of raising some cash, and this information gives us a good bit of help.

Of course we are not selling due to any doubt about this company. We will need some cash for other things, as Charlie would [more]

Jim,

You mentioned 1.7 just now. Do you or anyone else know when or even if 1.7 has been hit or exceeded in the past?

Just wondering.
