I would disagree. There are proven associations between flash crashes and HFT. Not a lot, but still worrisome.

What they are doing is actually hiding that slightly better price from you so that they can buy at that price and sell to you at a slightly higher one. I am sure that 99+% of the time, the significance of that difference in price is of no import. [more]
