Re: 2 cents on APPL. Disagree?

Now I jump back to buying Discover. Suppose Apple made it worthwhile for people to get a Discover Card (rebrand as an Apple Card, of course.) Maybe there are reward points, doubled at the Apple store, maybe it doesn't take even that much, dunno.) [more]

Re: latest stalwart Screen

Naj, good points all.

As you say, GOOG vs GOOGL makes the argument pretty messy, being about $5 apart - makes it hard to say which level is acting as a support

I'm open to being convinced that there are some momentum issues that it [more]

Re: latest stalwart Screen

Again, the point wasn't that everyone hones in on *exactly* 500.00. I think we can all agree that 499-501 is 500. Or 497-503 is ~ 500.

The main point was that these round figures are going to be support points - always have, always will. [more]

Re: FKA: Oil below $50

Interesting, and clears up, I think, how we do the calculations.

6 MMCF/day declining by 70% the 1ST year, then a 40%, 35%, 30%, 25% to get a '10 well to ~today, '15
Now the well @ 0.4 MMCF/day, then the NRI = 0.3

Re: IBM 170 or 140 today?

The critics are saying that buying back shares when your core business in a turnaround mode is not a good idea. Even Buffett would agree to this.

Re: latest stalwart Screen

people are simply not rational.

Plus, it's just easier: You're a PM, you're watching GOOG fall to get it, so where do you place your order? Right about 500, etc.

Why 503 or 497? You wouldn't. [Maybe 499/501 but that's to make

Re: IBM 170 or 140 today?

IBM has chosen to increase its profits using debt to buy back shares. It also used job cuts and lowered tax rates. This is reflected in the revenueless growth.

Re: Macro Outlook

You're right, my forex chart wasn't updating, I guess.

Pretty admirable how leak-free the process seems to be. No change at all until the minute of the announcement, in fact, if anything, the CAD was drifting up until 10:00, then, boom.

Re: Macro Outlook

A drop in the lending rate is bizarre, but this world is so complicated the reasons for it still make sense.

Wha? Total CPI is projected to be 0.5% in Q1, 0.3% in Q2 and 0.5% in Q3, mostly because of low oil prices. Core CPI [more]

Re: Macro Outlook

Now I'm really confused: no response to the policy announcement at the Bank of Canada, but at just after 11:30, the exchange rate spiked from about 1.205 CAD per USD to 1.236 now. Can anyone explain that?

I didn't see that coming (the drop in short term interest rates).

I'm just surprised it doesn't seem to have had any effect on the CAD - I guess the market was expecting it already.

Re: Macro Outlook

1. There is a strong chance that long term Bond Yields in Canada stay low. We will be facing very low inflation (core inflation anyway) and Canada is not a default risk. (the 10Y in Denmark is 0.50% for example). This should keep the 5 year [more]
