Re: OT: Great observation on value investing

Yup. I just figure Berkshire is the better choice.

Per-share results, show that Fairfax has been the much better choice, and it's been a far better choice since over demontrably long-periods of time. Folks, you can pull up a [more]

Yet you have stayed away from Fairfax, for sometimes prolonged poor returns on equity, even though they have demonstrated profound b.v. growth over very long periods.

Go figure?

Re: LUK Writeup

What makes LUK a play on inflation? Isn't the company roughly 50% Jef, which is an investment bank?

What is it? How much exposure to inflation?

This is where I disagree with you, and history disagrees with you:

Berkfan, when folks realize that the Federal Reserve has messed things up so badly that there is no turning back, even folks like Jimmy are going to want to buy gold.

And then there are the fundamentals, which are stunning.

Are you saying from here at 108 on GLD vs. 126 on BRK.B that GLD will best berkshire over a 1-3 year period?

Yes. But they are very different assets.

nice cherry pick VII.

How about Fairfax: Up 87% over the last 5. Berkshire: 49%.

I'll take that. Thank you. And my bunker over Berkshire. My bunker has doubled in price.

I've explained gold isn't an investment, it's a place for savings at times, like now. That alone makes it stupid to *bet* over an eight year time frame.

Jimmy, and just remember, Fairfax hasn't needed the bailouts. I'd take your bet if I thought the Fed won't be back to bail out Berkshire again, and again. Or gold for that matter

Ackman has returned 1,000% net of fees to his invetors since inception in 2004, after the big hair-cut.

I'll take that over Buffett, Berkshire, and Buffett's stock picks any day of the week.
