Re: Lunch with Pabrai

What about PIF 4 dividends? You left that out! And PIF3 is beating the best of the three indices by just 1% annulized, and actually losing to it when you include the real after tax return.

Folks, these number pretty much prove what I'm [more]

Re: Lunch with Pabrai

That is a ridiculous argument cubsfan because Pabrai Funds qualified investor 4 for example has lagged every indices now since its 2003 inception. 13 years.

After tax, ditto for his investor 3 fund.

Anyway you slice it, his results [more]

Re: Lunch with Pabrai

A dividend whole life cash value insurance policy would have crushed the Pabrai Funds on an after tax basis... with virtually zero downside ever.

Re: Lunch with Pabrai

An annualized return of 5.5 and 89.5 since 2002/2003 qualifies one as a *great* investor nowadays eh?

Awesome hurdle Lol.

He almost lost everything is 2009.

He is lagging every indice over the last 1-3-5 years.

Unless you invested in the first few years, your results have been dismal.

That is not great. Nor wide. Nor good.

Why is he an *amazing* investor? Given capital gains taxes over the years, given huge out-sized bets, adjusted risk/reward mediocre long-term results that now show for it.... and that his fund could literally implode as it already [more]

Re: initial buy of BRK-B

A base case of 15% annualized over the next 2.5 years certainly would be a great return Jim, given the risk/reward parameters.

You still short the market against Berkshire?

Re: Isn't It Ironic

Yup, I get it.

While Buffett hosed the astute investor, he likely made the ride long-term more smooth for the buy and forever Berkshire holders though... hence it's likely a better placeholder than it's ever been. Use it for what it [more]

Re: Off Topic: Overconfident?

The one poster said he only put 10% in each. But it looks like he lost about 100 million in Horsehead, and so those position make up most of his fund today.

While FCAU is as cheap as anything I've seeen... you just can't do that. [more]

Re: Off Topic: Overconfident?

Thanks for the name drop. With 50% of his fund in FCAU and GM, I can't imagine his thesis being too similar.

This is a poor return of capital business, and if the wealth-effect bubble pops, Pabrai will be out of business.

Oh.... one big adjustment: Not only do they plan to have no net debt in 2018, FCAU is on track right now to have net cash of 5 billion.

So we're talking about a negative earnings multiple to the companies enterprise value by 2018! [more]
