Re: Where to put $10,000?

OT: If you think GMO is pessimistic...

These guys have a model that forecasts annual real returns over various time horizons:

5 years: -0.53%
10 years: -1.08%
15 years: -1.72%
20 years: -0.33%

Just another (rather pessimistic) long-term forecast. They [more]

Re: Where to put $10,000?

Jim, I read these valuation posts of yours religiously and am constantly trying to think of reasons why you might be wrong (I hope you take that as a compliment). The two most likely vague ideas I have are:

1) The US stock market is

Re: Where to put $10,000?

An engineer may or may not be a good stock picker, investor, or whatever, but it should have nothing to do with whether he is a good engineer. Presumably a "good engineer" understands that things have costs, and that you can get [more]

Re: Where to put $10,000?

If the people in employment departments had over half a brain (they would be working at an honest job instead), they would realize that it is impossible to do an engineering job that has no financial aspects to it.

Re: Where to put $10,000?

I'm glad I could start an interesting little conversation. :)

The reason the question came up in an Electrical / Systems Engineering job interview is that I have a bit of a financial educational background. I pursued a finance PhD 7 years [more]

Where to put $10,000?

I received a hypothetical question today, in an engineering job interview, of all places:

If I had $10,000 I wanted to invest in stocks, and asked your advice, what advice would you give me?

I replied that, first, forget the stock [more]

Re: Benjamin Moore

When I was recently laid off, I basically had to sign away my right to any kind of legal action in order to collect severance. I can't imagine a lawsuit is worth the trouble unless the company behavior is particularly egregious.

Is not Wells Fargo "Too Big To Fail"? Do they not benefit financially from that status?

I understand what you are saying; my comment isn't directed specifically at Wells Fargo. Rather, it is just an observation of the fact that, [more]

It's a completely different thing for them to be downsized by a company whose earnings are positive and growing or whose CEO is making $20 million annually.

I was laid of last month for more or less this reason. The division president [more]
