Seems like a good bet to me: grows on marginal land, crowds out weeds without herbicide use, takes less water than traditional crops, long taproot left in the ground when the stalk is harvested contributes to soil health and carbon [more]

Seems like a good study. I'm not surprised there are measurable effects. Real estate buyers are a finicky lot. Gas and coal power plants, power lines, fracking wells, coal mines etc...: energy production is generally something most people don't want [more]

35 years and billions of dollars later and we're essentially at the same conclusion...

One big difference is that since 1979 then we've observed the predicted global warming, even though the sun measurably dimmed since then.

The choice of comparisons is telling - the above compares the most expensive coal plants with the best wind power. What happens if you have a modern coal plant with nearly full pollution controls with average-sited wind power - in other words, the [more]

the mitigation scenario that the IPCC uses is already a best-case scenario for mitigating carbon with the fewest costs

The .06C annual loss of growth, offset in large part or in full by health co-benefits, strikes me as a negligible risk for setting off a global recession, much less any really serious disruption. Especially if the cost-effective mitigation [more]

Burning NG directly is a BIG win because it is a domestic supply and would reduce imports coming from the furthest place from the US -- i.e. mostly the middle East.
