Re: Alternative to EVs and FCVs

EVs have some advantages, but it is no slam-dunk that they will be the dominant transportation format.

I think transport will go electric ... but agree that it's no slam dunk that pure battery electric will dominate. Hybrids that [more]

Pete opines: The chance of this plan lowering electric bills, as stated, is zero.

I dunno. Their rates currently are the highest in the nation at $.35/kwh. I'm pretty sure that even distributed residential PV comes in cheaper than [more]

Re: Alternative to EVs and FCVs

It's not futuristic in that Audi has an industrial scale production plant in operation. And it seems pretty cost effective.

Notice that Audi does not mention prices, that's usually a pretty good sign that it doesn't compete with [more]

Re: The era of Big Solar has arrived

It cost about $2 billion to build Ivanpah. It costs about $10 billion to build a nuclear power plant.

The $8 or 9 billion nuclear plant would have a max capacity about 3 times that of Ivanpah at 1117 megawatts for an AP1000 vs 377 [more]

The cost is the other thing being buried. The cost of reducing emissions is probably at least an order of magnitude less [more]

Re: Alternative to EVs and FCVs

Seems only cost prohibitive relative to burning fossil fuels. May not be relative to the cost of having to create a new energy distribution infrastructure as required for EVs and FCVs.

EVs look to have a pathway to cost of ownership [more]

I applaud their research and hope it will one day be practical but methinks that one day is quite a long way in the future.

Maybe one day, decades down the road, synthetic gasoline will help fuel a plug-in hybrid but it will undoubtably be [more]

Wind far Outpaces Nuclear in China

Even in pro-nuclear countries like China and India, utility scale wind is proving far easier to deploy than nuclear. Maybe that will change as we gain experience building third-generation plants, but we'll have to see.

So is your position that
A) the global amplification factor of 1.25 (trop/surface) should apply when the PDO is positive but not when it is negative (presumably lower during that half of the cycle) or is it

B) that it should average

Re: Warmist turned Skeptic- Good Interview

There have been lots of El Ninos and La Ninas, but since 1981 the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) swung decisively from warm phase to cold. The PDO can be viewed as the framework or tilt within which El Ninos or La Ninas occur. Warm phase of PDO: [more]
