Re: Munger: Jury Out On IBM

It seemed like Berkshire was up all day until Bloomberg released those comments by Munger on IBM and -wham! - it closed down $1.14.

Then again maybe those two events were completely unrelated:)

Question on PSX Investment

Question for those on the board who are considerably smarter than I am (which is pretty much everyone):

Is it crazy to think that Mr. Buffett is buying up all this stock in PSX with thoughts of maybe taking the company private? Seems like [more]

Re: IBM guides downagain

Down nearly 5% in after hours trading. I have a hunch there will be a question or two about Big Blue at the Berkshire AGM.

Bloomberg: Buffett Nears Buyback

Not much new here. Sort of the same old, same old regarding Berkshire getting close to the buyback levels. And, of course, the depressed stock price is totally being blamed on AXP, WMT and IBM.
One semi-interesting thing in the story is one [more]

Howard Marks' Interview

Interesting summary here of an interview with Howard Marks', who is a guy that Mr. Buffett has mentioned that he likes and respects.
His message: The Risks Are Substantial.

Re: Another teensy newspaper

No, it's no elephant. In fact it's not even a zebra but it sure is better than another post on how Mr. Buffett made the biggest mistake of his career buying into IBM.

Who knows, maybe this is a good omen as we open the New [more]

Berkshire's Bad Year

Well, if you're bored and want to read a typical Forbes piece telling you why Berkshire is anything but a buy here you go. Not only has the investment portfolio been a "disaster" the wholly owned subsidiaries are pretty much garbage as [more]

Re: S&P vs. BRK in 2015

No, it sure hasn't been a great year for Berky shareholders but at least it is nowhere near as bad as 1999 when Berkshire was down just shy of 20% and the S&P 500 was UP 21%. OUCH.

FWIW - Berkshire was up 26.6% the following year (2000) [more]

Re: Clayton not looking good

I read the entire article and quite honestly I am not sure what to think.

Re: My basket of misfit stocks

I just bought some IBM this morning. I figure that you don't get too many chances to invest in one of Mr. Buffett's permanent holdings at a price that is significantly below what he paid. It also doesn't hurt that it has a PE under 10, the dividend [more]

He said he trimmed his stakes in Walmart and GS to help finance the Precision Cast Parts deal. He mentioned that the trimming of those two stakes is no reflection on his positive thoughts about both companies.
