Re: 6 Metrics That Show Why NFLX Killed It

I'm trimming my position, but I have more shares than I did ~18 months ago (made a lot of buys last year under 100). Netflix has a great future but the valuation by its own historical measures is pretty high.

If I bet I will do so in the form of buying the stock.

Shame. I like easy money. :p Tesla has *already* designed and built and deployed battery-swap stations in the past. They made a big deal about it. No one used it, and they shut [more]

Re: Big Battery Reality

Just design the battery pack to pop-out and be replaced. So you pull in, something or someone gets under the vehicle, detaches the battery, and puts in a freshly-charge pack.

If Tesla ever tried that, it would fail. Wanna bet?

Re: iPhone

Except BEV are here today and full automation is years away.

Both are years away. BEV sales are ~1% of sales volume in the US. Toyota, the most valuable car company in the world, still hasn't committed to it.

So far, the [more]

Re: iPhone

Well if you think ICE -> BEV is a big deal, and it took riding around in one to know that, the changes that will come from autonomous ridesharing is gonna make your head spin once you get the opportunity to try that out. The two things aren't [more]

Re: iPhone

The real revolution isn't the electric drivetrain, it's fully autonomous driving (and the subsequent reduction in personal car ownership). The movement to BEV is a bit lateral: slightly better statistics on acceleration, cost of ownership, [more]

Re: Mark Andreessen - Netscape

I was meditating on that exact quote this weekend as well.

I think that whatever car deserves to be called the iPhone 1, it has to be the one that can fully drive itself autonomously in a ride-sharing network. Maybe that's the model 3, [more]

Re: NFLX Next $1B opportunity

Did the interviewers even ask about that in the earnings call? I don't think they asked about future price increases. The investor relation situation has gotten really lazy with this company.

I do think seasonality is based on weather. It's been mostly the same since the DVD days except that Q4 has grown relatively stronger at the expense of Q1, probably just shifting people to earlier signups in the weeks bracketing new [more]

Re: Weak Q1, crackling rest of year

Probably one of the more predictable and dull results in the history of Netflix. Even the Q2 guidance is only 100k subscribers higher than my spreadsheet had.

I am a little struck by the fact that they claim to pass 100M this weekend. This [more]

Re: NFLX Intnl Growth May Be Surprising

Back in 2012 I became 80+% certain Netflix would post 150M global subs eventually @ 15% margin and 12$\month price which meant 45-60B market cap depending on P/E (20-30) at that point. So the stock has done better than the actual company, according [more]

Weak Q1, crackling rest of year

As far as I can tell, the original slate was really weak this quarter. Even the tentpole Iron Fist got a lot of negativity. And there was no Fuller House or Making a Murderer or House of Cards, or other major surprise. Also Q1 last year is a tough [more]
