TT thinks a sale was a like-kind exchange

I'm working on the taxes in TurboTax, and have gotten to the end where it is doing a review. DH sold his work truck in March of last year, and didn't buy a new one until October. I've given TT the dates and the selling price, and it is now looking [more]

Actually, I don't know - didn't think to ask. The reason I think it's a possibility is since he cashed the check at my bank rather than taking it to his. But it could be he just wanted to make sure the check was

If he was a contractor he wouldn't have paid sales tax on the items he bought and used doing your job.

That must be only in some states. That is certainly not true in MA. DH pays sales tax on all the materials that he [more]

I hired a contractor to do some stucco repair as part of my installing solar on my house.

Is there any documentation I need other than the canceled check? Do I need to get a ITIN/SSN from him? (And if I can't get one, then

I doubt it... their contract was with the general contractor, not the property holder.

I suspect this varies by state, but at least in MA, it used to be that a sub could most definitely put a lien on the house on which the work was [more]

Yes, I considered and used 529 plans, but I don't get any sort of tax break in my state, and I didn't like the inflexibility of the investment choices or having to use it [more]
