Re: Oil Price History

What are the odds of the feds shutting CLR and the rest down? I have read about New York putting the clamps down on fracking. If such is the case, I believe frackers should trade at a discount relative to a comparable diversified oil producer.

Re: Oil Price History

At $48 per barrel even the saudis are perhaps just slightly above the costs to produce.

This is different from what you posted for SDRL's numbers? In fact, looking at this chart, $50 a barrel oil means the vast majority is break even [more]

Re: Seeking Alpha and BOFI

From what I'm reaading, BOFI took some big positions in discounted RMBS during the middle of the financial crisis. Those purchases are paying off. The downside is they will be less of a factor as BOFI grows, or as they mature. This explains the [more]

Re: Seeking Alpha and BOFI

A bank that returns 1.5% on assets this day and age is not typical. Most banks I see are lucky to break past the 1% mark. WFC has the reputation as a well run bank, because they ARE a well run bank. The fact that BOFI is around the same return on [more]

Has anyone been following the oil sector for quite a while? That is, going back to the 1970's?

EOG Resources states they can maintain profit with oil in the $40's. Their management has a good reputation from what I have been reading. Of all the shale players, I'd pick them. If these low prices persist, it's companies like them that will be [more]

BOFI is riding the wave of reduction in number of branches. People are more likely to be willing to bank entirely online these days and never visit a branch.

Re: SDRL exercise purchase option

What I mean by my last paragraph is not that I would buy all this stuff if only it weren't held in retirement accounts, what I mean is I don't think of the stock market as some get rich quick thing and I can be some "market wizard" if I [more]

Re: SDRL exercise purchase option

The premise I have been using for several years now is, if I would not want to hold a stock through a business cycle, I do not buy it in the first place. I would have to be willing to hold a stock through a recession if I were to buy it tomorrow, and [more]

Re: Poll: How much time do you spend on...

There's a few things I'm concerned about at this point. It doesn't matter what a company did from 1980 to 2014. What a company did from 2000-2014, and the growth it showed, let alone what it did from 1980-2000, is pretty irrelevant. I'm sure a good [more]

One thing that concerns me with KMI is, if their deny is so high, why is their ROE under 10%? Especially if they have any type of moat? They have been spending $1-2 billion a year on Capex over the past few years. The price still baffles me. I see [more]

commoncents, why do you say earnings are not relevant, or not applicable here? I understand this company recently changed the structure and taking back all of it's trusts that are currently out there. But I still do not see how it doesn't apply.
