Re: A Ramble

It's deferred payment.

When you buy a fridge from Sears, you can pay it off twice as fast and save money, or even refinance it with another company.

The nature of the obligation is massively different. Look at the exit [more]

Re: Android Approaching Monopoly Status...

With the agency model the publisher sets the price, not the retailer. That's been ruled illegal in many, perhaps most industries.

In which industries is the agency model illegal?

Android Next

As I previously mentioned, this year's big Google IO event was all about services. The "Next" version of Android is the current version... the major upgrades in Android are major overhauls of core Google services and improved applications [more]

Have to see what they look when you actually use them, but it seems Google has done an amazing job kicking their best services up about 3 notches. Nobody is going to touch Google Maps or Search products in terms of functionality for a long time. [more]

Re: Random Notes... Last First Edition

I'm curious how you came up with that. If you do the Family Plan with unlimited data, it's $150/month for 3 phones on T-Mobile. It looks like it would be $210 if you get 3 single-line plans, but is there a reason you would do [more]

Open wins, every time.

This isn't a matter of open versus closed. Open software itself is not any more or less secure than closed software. Linux on servers, BSD on servers, both do amazingly well security wise.

I find it unlikely the curved corners will go. The iPhone has exactly one shape etched into it's face and that is a rounded cornered icon symbol on the home button.

Re: Random Notes... Last First Edition

It could easily be people who were on AT&T or Verizon as well and jumping ship to T-Mobile for the (potential future) cost savings.

For me, T-Mobile doesn't make sense, it's $170-190/ month for me to have 3 phones on Verizon (depending [more]
