Re: The Merge

The same can be said of the base OS. Windows is much more resource intense than Windows Phone, OSX Much more resource intense than iOS. And rightfully so, if you have 4 times the resources, you should take advantage of it.

Even if we were [more]

Re: MSFT not learning from its mistakes

Yes no doubt, this is the future. How far away are we from having a mobile phone with sufficent power if we are not there already to be a desktop computer especially when in the enterprise the apps are accessed via the cloud. [more]

Re: MSFT not learning from its mistakes

I agree that the Mac should look and feel like the Mac.

There is a lot more to an OS than look and feel though. The kernel, file systems, and many of the APIs can (and indeed do) be nearly identical while the user interface has a completely [more]

--- But Apple wanted to make them more similar. ---

And after that proved unsuccessful they swung things the other way with iOS 8 gaining limited file system support.

Re: MSFT not learning from its mistakes

Apple is going this way too and has been for some time. The big question is how far to take it. OS X and iOS share lots of common bits under the hood and it's increasing with every release. It is this commonality that makes apps that use handoff [more]

Stellar Article on IBM + Apple

Ben Thompson hammered out a great piece explaining the value that IBM brings to Apple.

Re: Facts wrong again

It's Apple insider... I lowered my expectations on their reporting a long time ago. Apple rumor sites aren't known for their veracity, and Apple Insider isn't even one of the better rumor sites.

Can that really be correct? I would have thought most people were still on plans.

Random call factoids

• 50% of iPad owners are new users. Suggests iPad 'life' is much longer than the iPhone and users are content to keep one for long term. Sales are flat, but the platform is growing.
• iPad growth over 50% in China, mid-40% in India. Sales [more]

Re: Interesting note on channel inventory

There is this weird thing where inventory gets ignored during good quarters and played up as being really significant during weak quarters. At some point I just stopped paying attention to it. Looking at longer term numbers where inventory isn't an [more]

Re: email client market share

Look at the curves, I'll bet Android switched to using "Gmail" sometime last year so gmail use exploded while "android" use plunged. That makes it difficult to split desktop Gmail from smartphone gmail.

iPhones were on the higher end of estimates, iPads disappointed, but the Mac killed it again with 13% growth. At this rate, the Mac is going to catch back up to the iPad in terms of revenue.

Why would anyone buy a Samsung S5 in China?

Xiaomi launched their newest flagship and it's quite sexy and $300 less than the S5.

Re: Optimistic my Going into Earnings.

Maybe China Mobile is trumping up the numbers, it wouldn't be the first company to fabricate numbers. (Look at Samsung's tablet sales for much of 2013).

It's going to be tough to find numbers that contradict that though.

Optimistic my Going into Earnings.

Holding Apple through earnings is always a bumpy ride. After the run we've seen lately, there is a strong chance even a minor disappointment during the historically sluggish summer quarter, will cause a dip.
