I know a lot of people who bought their parents an iPad to replace their old-ish Windows XP systems.

How many people replace a radio with a television? Why not?

How many people leave the house planning a nice dinner and when Red [more]

Because some folks don't quite get it.

The difference between radio and TV: One you listen to, the other has video and sound. Pretty huge gap in experience.

The difference between Windows 8 "PCs" and the iPad: Some (not [more]

Re: IDC and Gartner, again

You insist on analogies which have little bearing on the current situation so of course they don't work.

The entire point of metrics is to provide context so you can measure success and make predictions about the future. These IDC and [more]

Should the two nearly identical products be classified differently because one has an ARM CPU and the other has an Intel CPU?

Maybe they should just change the name of the chart to "Intel based computers". Then it would at least [more]

You have defended the archaic "PC" classification for years and clearly still do. "Properly categorized" in such a way that the numbers are utterly meaningless and incapable of predicting anything.

I would say the iPhone 5c has been a huge success. It did better than the iPhone 4S every single quarter and it had much better margins then the iPhone 5 would have had in that slot.

It's the iPhone 5 that was merely 'decent' sales weren't [more]

At this point, what is the purpose of the Microsoft stores? They have few devices they sell and need to support and the bulk of their business and profits comes from enterprise clients who don't deal with retail. Nadella has already dropped the [more]

Everything that is actually "Gmail" branded and made by Google uses a distinct API. I assume that's why the Android Mail client numbers are withering away as gmail is growing so rapidly. Other apps can use that API now, but they only opened [more]

IDCs track record for predicting Mac sales over the past year has been abyssal. This is the second time they predicted flat or low single digit growth and came up short by huge margins. Gardiner has been much better.

Costco is carrying the wifi only iPad in stores and in their main online store now. They are discounting it a bit and including a $40 itune gift card with higher end models. If you are a member, it's a good deal.
